Apps of the Month: Best iPhone Apps of November
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsLast month we launched Apps of the Month: a series dedicated to profiling iPhone apps that you should actually buy, instead of the ones that simply got the most hype. This is a tough task, given the 100,000+ apps on the store and the fact that discovery is an absurdly difficult task, even for those [...] -

Why the CrunchPad mattered
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsThere’s already been quite a bit of ink spilled over the demise of the CrunchPad but I thought I’d add a few drops. My opinion is this: the CrunchPad was a testament to the power of online media and a fascinating study in the ability of new media to enact real changes on the real [...] -
Let’s blame Leno’s decline in ratings on the DVR rather than trying to acknowledge that media consumption is changing
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsI'm pretty sure I wrote the complete opposite story several days ago, but who cares, right? It's cold and rainy and there's not much else to talk about. So! As you're probably well aware, Jay Leno's new show isn't doing too well. Why is that? Well, you can try to sit down and analyze if the show is any good or not (note: I haven't seen the show), or if the show's earlier time slot isn't conducive to that type of show. You know, just try to examine what's going on. That, or you can blame those damn DVRs for ruining everything. Let's go with that one.

Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsThe G-Drive external hard drive line has been out for a bit now. But the latest model is loaded with the Hitachi 2TB 7200RPM 3.5-inch hard drive, which means I had to check it out. Let’s just say, this boy is big, bad, and fast. LG Arena Max gets WiFi certification, sounds way more extreme than Arena
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsLG's Arena was one of the more important non-smartphone handsets of 2009, if for no other reason than the fact that it introduced the world to LG's latest standard user experience, S-Class. Of course, it was introduced all the way back in February -- a lifetime by mobile standards -- which means that it's about time to re-up with a shiny replacement. It sounds like that might come in the form of an "Arena Max" model, thanks to a fresh certification in the Wi-Fi Alliance's database pointing to an LU9400 model going by that name. Specs are anyone's guess at this point, but we can probably expect a big, stonking camera, a full-touch UI, and -- you guessed it -- WiFi.LG Arena Max gets WiFi certification, sounds way more extreme than Arena originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 30 Nov 2009 17:48:00 EST. Best Tip Of The Week: I am not good with computer edition
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsWe get a lot of e-mail at the MobileCrunch tips line. Really, a whole friggin’ lot. About 2% of them are worthwhile tips. The remaining 98% is made up of other bloggers highlighting their stories for linkage (which we don’t mind a bit), Nigerian princes asking for our bank account details (which we do mind), [...] -

Posted on November 30, 2009 | No Comments
Finally an answer to the age-old question of what can be done to improve skateboards and/or make them more dangerous. Hammacher Schlemmer’s doozy, “The 19 MPH Skateboard” is the answer.

ASUS Maximus III Extreme mobo lets Bluetooth cellphones tweak settings
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsASUS has been giving its motherboard owners ways to tinker with their wares for years now, but it sounds like things are about to get seriously amped up with the Maximus III Extreme. The P55-based board, which falls into the growing Republic of Gamers lineup, adds a new feature to the existing ROG Connect overclocking system: Bluetooth control. You heard right -- ASUS claims that this mainboard actually "enables users to tweak system settings wirelessly over Bluetooth via a mobile phone." More specifically, RC Bluetooth allows users to "review the status of their systems' hardware and tweak parameters wirelessly from a Bluetooth-enabled PDA phone," with examples like controlling music playback and dealing with Skype conversations given. There's no specific mention of a price or release date, but you can bet we'll be digging for specifics on the limits and functionality baked in here.ASUS Maximus III Extreme mobo lets Bluetooth cellphones tweak settings originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 30 Nov 2009 16:03:00 EST. CrunchDeals: DJ Hero for $85
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No CommentsAmazon is unloading Activision’s new-ish DJ Hero package for $85 across all current-generation systems – that’s down from $100+ elsewhere. The bundle is also available on PlayStation 2, although it’s priced at $98.99. That’s “whack” as most popular DJ’s might say. That’s a thing, right? Whack? The standard bundle includes the DJ Hero game with over [...]
