Intended for mobile devices like smartphones and point-and-shoot digicams, this miniature wonder will be sampling in July and hitting mass production before the end of the year. Not much else is known about it at this point -- we can guess it'll cost a pretty penny when it debuts -- but Sharp has penned an effusive press release, which you may explore just past the break.

South Korea first to terrestrially broadcast HD 3DTV

Conclusive evidence that South Korea is the greatest country on Earth: it will begin terrestrial (that's over-the-air) 3D TV broadcasts in a few weeks. Better still, it'll be in full high-definition. How long do you think it's going to be before "Dancing With The Stars" is shown in 3D here? Probably like 200 years, yes.

First 3D baseball game ever will air on DirecTV in July

Listen, it's all well and good that DirecTV gets to make these grandiloquent announcements that it's going to offer this or that sport in 3D—today's news is that DirecTV will be the first TV provider to show a Major League Baseball game in 3D with this July 10 and July 11's Yankees-Mariners clash on the YES Network—but I have one question: why in God's name is Fox Soccer Channel still shown in standard definition? That's right, four years after I purchased my first HDTV specifically so I could watch ESPN-HD and ESPN2-HD coverage of the World Cup, I'm still staring at SD coverage on FSC with DirecTV. It's all a little bit stupid.

  • Harman Kardon releases HDMI 1.4a upgrade for selected receivers

Harman Kardon releases HDMI 1.4a upgrade for selected receivers

And just as I was getting used to my HDMI 1.3a! Harman Kardon is releasing updates to its AVR2600,3600, and 7550HD receivers, enabling HDMI 1.4a through a firmware upgrade.
"In order to meet the requirements for HDMI ver1.4a it is true that a combination of hardware and software specs must be met. The underlying hardware architecture of these models is configured in a way that does not require any change. Thus, only updated software is required. The issue is different from one type of product to another (e.g. AVR vs. Blu ray vs. TV) as well as from one brand or model to another. In some cases a hardware change is needed and a software upgrade is not sufficient, but in the case of these models (as well as some other products in the market)" (Robert Silva example: Sony PS3) "new software and compliance testing is all that is needed."

Fujifilm now lets you view 3D pics taken with its REAL 3D W1 on 3D TVs

Do you remember the FinePix REAL 3D W1, the "world's first" digital camera that lets users shoot photos (and movies) in 3D? Announced by Fujifilm back in September 2008, the device, which you can see pictured below, became official one year later (Fujifilm in the US, for example, sells it online for $600). For those lucky owners of said camera who also plan on getting a 3D TV soon, Fujifilm in Japan has announced [JP] the HDP-L1, a so-called "HD memory card player" (pictured on top of this post). Once plugged into your brand new 3D TV via HDMI, the small device lets you view 3D pictures and movies you made on the W1 on the TV screen (all you need to do is to put an SD or SDHC card with the 3D material into the player).
