Samsung Galaxy S taking UK pre-orders, Vodafone promises June 15 delivery
Posted on June 11, 2010 | No CommentsWere you looking forward to purchasing a 16GB smartphone with unique screen technology and an app-centric OS this month? Great, because the Galaxy S pre-order has now gone live in the UK, offering a delivery only four days away from now and prices that are pretty much par for the superphone course. If you want the Super AMOLED machine for free, minimum monthly cost will be steep, starting out at £35 ($51) a pop over 24 months or £40 ($58) over 18 lunar cycles. Both those deals furnish you with 900 minutes of talk time, unlimited texts, and 1GB of 3G data, but the latter works out to be the better value as it tallies up to £720 ($1,045) in total investment over the full term. Then again, most of what Vodafone has on tap compares favorably to the madness O2 is asking iPhone 4 buyers to pony up.Samsung Galaxy S taking UK pre-orders, Vodafone promises June 15 delivery originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 02:05:00 EST. iPhone 4 at Best Buy for launch, at least 45 devices per store?
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsThe iPhone 4 at Best Buy on launch day? It'd be no surprise, really -- after all, the retail giant had both the iPhone 3GS and iPad right from the get-go. We just got word from one of our trusted sources that Best Buy will indeed have the newfangled phone at launch, and even better, we've got some details on the inventory. A minimum of 30 units for the 32GB device and 15 of the 16GB will apparently be available at each store, and employee purchases are banned at launch. We can't say for sure without more paperwork, but this source has been pretty reliable before -- if nothing else, it should give you a decent idea just how early you should be preparing to wait in line.
Oh, and RadioShack fanatics? Yeah, we've heard you can head down there for launch, too, but we don't yet have a clue as to how many will be in stock.iPhone 4 at Best Buy for launch, at least 45 devices per store? originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 22:34:00 EST. Samsung Galaxy S launches in Europe, hitting US ‘later this year’
Posted on June 3, 2010 | No CommentsSo that simultaneous global launch isn't going to materialize quite as we were told, but Samsung is indeed bringing the Galaxy S to the widest possible audience. The Korean giant has made its 2010 flagship official in Europe today, meaning you should be able to sign your life away to your favorite carrier in exchange for it very soon indeed. We're told the 4-incher will be making its American debut later in the year, though a protracted delay appears unlikely. Pricing on the Galaxy S might not turn out to be all that democratic, but its comprehensive choice of more than 100 global carriers sure will be, and might suggest we'll get a choice of networks when the phone finally makes its way Stateside. Hang tight, gringos, not long to go now.Continue reading Samsung Galaxy S launches in Europe, hitting US 'later this year'

O2 UK will get Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus on May 28, skin you alive with pricing
Posted on May 19, 2010 | No CommentsYou didn't think Germany was gonna have all the Palm fun, did you? The UK is keeping pace with its longtime nemesis by matching the May 28 launch date for the Pre and Pixi Plus on O2, and has even supplied us with a handy reference sheet containing all price plans available for the handsets. You'll find it after the break, but sadly it'll only be of interest to true WebOS enthusiasts. There's nothing south of £25 ($36) per month available, and if you want a reasonable call allowance, you'll have to get on into the £30 and above bracket. All contracts do at least come with unlimited texts and data, but overall the cost seems too steep to entice us, what with all the Desires and Bolds floating around at better price points.

HTC Wildfire priced by T-Mobile, coming to UK on June 14
Posted on May 19, 2010 | No CommentsThe biggest outstanding question about the Wildfire has now been answered by at least one carrier -- T-Mobile will be delivering HTC's student-friendly handset at the £20 ($29) per month price point on two-year contracts. Frankly, that's a bigger financial commitment than we'd expected to have to make, but it will presumably include unlimited (which in T-Mobile lingo means a 3GB fair use policy) data use and a healthy allowance of calls and texts. If that doesn't rub you up the right way, look out for Virgin Mobile to reveal its pricing in the near term, having announced it'll be carrying the phone via a tweet.Continue reading HTC Wildfire priced by T-Mobile, coming to UK on June 14

Dell Mini 3i officially set for imminent launch in Brazil and China
Posted on November 13, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Others, China Mobile, Android
It would appear those leaked and unintentional early peeks at Dell's first foray into smartphones did not happen in Brazil and China by accident. Hans Erickson of Dell Latin America has announced the decision to "give priority" to those two countries, who will be first to experience the Mini 3i's Android glory, with China receiving devices "in the coming days" and Brazil getting 'em later this year. Interestingly, China Mobile will be making do without 3G, while Brazil's Claro will be offering a 3G-enabled handset. Dell remains mum on pricing and the rest of the spec, though all the information so far indicates that Brazilians will be able to buy the same WiFi-packing FCC-certified 3iX handset that's heading to the US. Either way, we've got another heavyweight's presence in the smartphone market, and we'll be even happier once we know what Dell's value-add will be.

HTC HD2 officially coming to US, out in Europe and Asia today!
Posted on November 4, 2009 | No CommentsBe still, our beating hearts! HTC has just pressed the "Go" button for European and Asian shipping of its latest object of desire, and it's served notice to American phone lovers that the HD2 is coming to them soon as well. Slated for a "major US carrier" some time "early 2010," it'll land squarely in the same time bracket as the XPERIA X10, which should lead to some really quite interesting decisions to be made, presumably by March 2010. The WinMo 6.5 device might be shipping now, but you'll have to wait at least until the 9th of November before you can spill your Euros for it, and we expect to see a flurry of pricing and contract information filling that short waiting time. Full PR after the break.

Palm Pixi on sale November 15 exclusively at Sprint for $100 on contract
Posted on October 26, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Palm, Sprint, EV-DO, CDMA, webOS
Just as we'd heard earlier this morning, today's the day that Palm and Sprint come clean with their undercover plans for the former's second-ever webOS device. The Pixi, which we toyed with back on our first Engadget Show, is slated to hit Sprint stores, Best Buy, RadioShack and select Walmart locations on November 15th for $99.99, but that's after a $50 instant rebate and a $100 mail-in rebate that you'll be waiting ages for. Nothing here is all that surprising -- after all, we knew it'd be on shelves before the holiday season -- but the $100 price point is downright depressing. The Palm Pre can be had right now for just $150 (also on contract), and beyond that, both webOS devices are being offered on the exact same network. Throw this thing on Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile, and you've got a whole new wave of Palm customers; as it stands, who's really buying this with the Pre just $50 away?Palm Pixi on sale November 15 exclusively at Sprint for $100 on contract originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 26 Oct 2009 10:27:00 EST. Motorola CLIQ available to T-Mobile customers now, great masses November 2
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Motorola, T-Mobile, HSDPA, Android
Well now this is a pleasingly rapid transition from announcement to review samples to market availability. Motorola's Android-loving CLIQ (already on sale under the moniker DEXT in the UK), its QWERTY keyboard and all the apps you could desire are now ready to be had, should you already have an account with T-Mobile, the device's exclusive US carrier. It was expected that only pre-orders would be taken today, but it appears for all the world that T-Mobile is ready to start shipping the CLIQ to its loyal customers ahead of the November 2nd full release date. Prices start from the previously reported $200 on a two-year agreement -- a move that will give you plenty of time to wonder if you shouldn't have waited for more details about the Droid mashup from Verizon, Motorola, and Google.Motorola CLIQ available to T-Mobile customers now, great masses November 2 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 19 Oct 2009 04:56:00 EST.
