Jabra Stone goes exclusive in white for AT&T
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsJabra's Stone is still one of the more stylish Bluetooth headsets ever to take on the market, but you know what makes anything more stylish? Painting it white. Sure enough, the white Stone looks pretty sweet in pictures, and it's an AT&T exclusive starting today for $129 in stores. That's a little steep for a headset, sure, but one small bonus is that buyers who complete a survey after picking it up will receive a $30 card good toward other products in the AT&T store -- so that takes the edge off the pocketbook sting, we suppose.

Sound ID’s 510 Bluetooth headset has iPhone app to match
Posted on May 28, 2010 | No CommentsOccasionally, we long for simpler times -- times when "handsfree" meant little more than connecting a corded earbud to your phone and calling it good. Nowadays, of course, things are a little different: Bluetooth is quite literally everywhere, headsets have their own frickin' apps, and bone conduction tech is the real deal. Take this Sound ID 510, for example, featuring its very own iPhone app (which Sound ID made sure to get approved by Apple ahead of the actual hardware's release) that lets you control a number of settings, check your battery level, and find the set if you misplace it. To be fair, it's not the first time we've seen an on-phone companion app for a Bluetooth earbud, and something tells us it won't be the last; that's right, welcome to our frightning new reality. Look for the 510 to hit shops in early June for about $130.

BlueAnt outs the rugged T1 Bluetooth headset

Bluetooth headsets generally take a good amount of abuse. They are after all thrown in pockets with keys, tossed in bags , thrown on desks, and suffer countless other forms of stress over their lifetime. Thankfully most are priced as throwaway items. However, the just-announced BlueAnt T1 isn't a normal headset. This little guy seems like one tough bastard.

It's probably not a company name you're intimately familiar with, but as with Jawbone, we're fully expecting it to become a mainstay in the Bluetooth earpiece sector after this unveiling. The Aura EQ earset is one of the wildest BT devices we've seen to date, boasting a slick, almost futuristic design and a smattering of features that are startlingly unique. For starters, it ships with twin switchable, focusable microphones, and if its ability to pair with up to eight phones doesn't bowl you over, maybe the built-in six-band equalizer will. Essentially, this headset will amplify and equalize the voice of whoever is speaking, which compensates for volume loss in certain ranges when communicating on a windy day or over a lackluster connection. Finally, exterior touts a capacitive volume control: simply slide your finger up or down the base, and the volume increases or decreases. No knobs or minuscule rocker switches to fuddle with. You'll be able to check this out worldwide in March for around $79 (estimated street price).

Vertu V makes no concessions: $730 BT headset, $490 card reader, and $330 ballpoint pen
Posted on December 11, 2009 | No CommentsBecause nothing says "I ain't afraid of no recession" like plopping down an excess amount of Benjamins for a Bluetooth earpiece, Vertu has unveiled its V accessories collection. $780 gets you a Bluetooth 2.1-compliant earpiece with 6 hours of charge time (same one we saw hit the FCC recently, we suspect), $490 for a USB memory card reader that as a consolation prize comes with a 2GB microSD card, and as for the ballpoint pen, asking price is a cool $330. For all three purchases, it's recommended you purchase the special leather case for protection -- and if these gifts are already comfortably in your price range, hey, why not?

Jabra STONE Bluetooth headset brings extreme noise blocking, $130 price tag

Okay, so this thing is way more "traditional Bluetooth headset" than "a round object that looks nothing like a Bluetooth headset," but we'll give the marketing team credit -- STONE sure got us looking. Jabra's newest Bluetooth headset has just become official, bringing with it a behind-the-ear design, a wireless portable charger (which doubles as a carrying case) and Noise Blackout Extreme technology to keep things quiet when your yammering. There's also a "nearly invisible touch-controlled volume pad" on the outside of the headset, a battery good for 8 hours of talk time (or 12 days in standby), dual BT pairing support and A2DP compatibility. Unfortunately, you'll have to waltz into an AT&T retail store starting on November 8th to get one, and worse still, you'll walk out $129.99 poorer. But hey, you'll leave Stoned. Motorola HX1 Bluetooth headset rumored to be $159, Sprint exclusive

While the economy is in shambles and folks are losing their homes, Motorola is about to push the Bluetooth price point ceiling up to $159 with the HX1. The company claims - and Engadget seems to agree - that this is the best Bluetooth headset on the planet and perhaps the galaxy. The HX1 uses some sort of special bone conduction technology that eliminates external noise and produces amazing call clarity. But who would spend $160 on the bland looking Motorola HX1 when the sexy $129 Jawbone Prime, tiny and smart $129 BluAnt Q1, or $99 workhorse Plantronics Voyager PRO is available? Our answer is after the break.
