    DotWar: Twitter-based strategy game

It's certainly not the first Twitter-based game out there, but DotWar, a made-in-Japan strategy/action title is a pretty satisfying time waster. The game is bilingual (English/Japanese) and actually to be played outside Twitter, on a separate site. Gameplay is pretty straightforward: Simply enter your Twitter handle to send out hundreds or even thousands of battle "units"out against another player/Twitter user.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword announced along with vastly improved Wii interaction

Here we go: another E3, another Zelda. The latest in the Zelda canon is Skyward Sword, a MotionPlus compatible game that mimics the experience of holding a sword and a shield. Link's on-screen actions mimic your actions completely including the motion of a shield in front of you. Basically this is a more precise version of the previous Zelda Wii interface. With so many people trying so many motion controls, however, I wonder how exciting this will be in context.

Man alive. I don’t mind SMB Crossover, but the creator, Jay Pavlina reminds me of Vince Veneziani on a little too much Red Bull. Watch as the creator of the game plays the game, a meta picture-in-picture experience that’s like watching a hand draw itself. via Reddit

He could climb on walls and he had unlimited shuriken, a big plus when you’re going against hordes of anti-ninja forces on the NES. But how is he against Koopa Troopers? Our favorite game, SMB Crossover, just announced they’re adding Ryu [...]

    Nintendo trademarks “3DS” among others

Backstory: A Nintendo suit said a while back that the company hasn't announced the official name yet for its upcoming handheld 3D gaming device. This of course suggests that 3DS isn't the official name. Well, that might not be true if Nintendo's recent trademark filings have anything to say about it.

Photo report: CrunchGear digs up Akihabara’s top 10 expensive classic games

Nearly two years have passed since I last went to Akihabara in Tokyo to dig up Japan's most expensive retro games. This time, I made the observation that the general price level has gone down in the past months. Some of the pricey carts and CDs I listed up were simply nowhere to be found, some were considerably cheaper for some reason, and other games became more expensive over time.

Operating profit dropped 36% to $3.8 billion, while net profit - for the first time in six years - dropped to $2.4 billion, compared with $2.9 billion a year earlier.
