DIYer combines iPhone 3GS with Show WX for pico projected gaming bliss (video)
Posted on May 17, 2010 | No Commentsdigg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Worlds_First_Pico_Projector_iPhone_Camera'; The Moject project proved that smartphones and pico projectors do indeed have a thing for one another, but Ethan Janson has taken things one step further with an unnamed contraption that holds his iPhone 3GS, a Microvision Show WX and an "ancient" point-and-shoot camera. Put simply, the handmade thingamajig allows him to play his iPhone games on a far larger screen, and since the Show WX continually autofocuses regardless of distance from walls, there's never a blurring issue when flailing about in order to control the gameplay. The full skinny is down there in the source, but shortcut takers can head straight past the break for a video.

“Universal Packaging System” concept misses the point
Posted on April 20, 2010 | No Comments
In theory Patrick Sung's new design concept sounds good. A sheet of cardboard, perforated in such a way to make it easy to wrap around an item, all the time protecting it from damage during shipment. But that's where the good idea fails. Plus, I doubt the United Parcel Service will let him use their logo.

Shanzaistudios.com: The next big thing in China is “socialist” production
Posted on February 28, 2010 | No Comments
The guys behind Shanzai.com - a blog covering the very best in China and Indian shanzai products - are taking the world of shanzai online with a new crowdsourcing site called Shanzaistudios.com
Basically, its your standard crowdsourcing model or better yet "Social Production" - the site puts up a product they can manufacture in China and everyone visiting the site gets to help form the final design that gets made and sold.
While the first product is very interesting to tablet fans (a tablet bag 'natch) its how deep they plan to go that is exciting. While in Hong Kong, I was able to chat with one of the founders and they were telling me that ultimately this is the way to get a more personalized cellphone or a tablet device, but starting smaller and building it up is their initial goal.

Remeber that post about the wire shoe thing?
Posted on February 22, 2010 | No CommentsExciting news, friends. I've just come back from the future, and I have some news to share. In the year 2050, the United Nations will hold a "Remember Blogging?" panel, and it will be chaired by the encapsulated head, à la Futurama, of Cory Doctorow. There will come a time in the panel when Doctorow's head turns and says, "Now, blogging wasn't all shits and giggles. Some of it was truly dreadful. Par example..." This will all be done in Mandarin Chinese, of course, which replaced English as the lingua franca of the world in 2035. Anyhow, Doctoro's head will say, "You see, I seem to remember a post on reasonably popular tech blog CrunchGear that described some sort of wire-frame shoe. It was rubbish."

HTC gets fancy with designer Tattoo covers
Posted on October 13, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: HTC, Accessories, Android
We knew the Tattoo would be just a little funkier than the rest of the devices in HTC's Android line (though you've got to admit that the pink Hero is pretty freakin' funky), and that vision's now coming to fruition under a whole line of designer covers. Under the clever-but-obvious "Tattoo My HTC" and "Tattoo You" catchphrases, the company is now offering a selection of 15 replacement covers to spice up your sidearm for €11.99 (about $18) each -- and if you're not feeling any of them, you can design your own right from the comfort of HTC's site for €14.99 (about $22). That might seem outrageous for a battery cover, but the good news is that these aren't just pretty rear ends -- the covers replace both the front and back of the Tattoo for a whole-body makeover that's sure to impress your fashion-conscious friends.
