Olympus to address E-P1 manually focusing issues with upcoming firmware

The Olympus E-P1 is a funny device. Everyone was stoked when Olympus first announced the retro camera, but then people actually got it in their hands. There were some issues with the first-gen camera. Some have been addressed in previous update, but now the manual focus is getting some attention with the upcoming 1.3 firmware update.

The Samsung NX-10 was just an Internet rumor for half of 2009, but Samsung finally made it official last week at CES. The camera is a lot like the micro four-thirds format with a compact image sensor and body, along with interchangeable lens. But as fototrend.hu's review shows, the camera isn't nearly as compact as the Olympus E-P1. But it also has a built-in rangefinder and and flash so I guess it's a trade-off.

Chances are if you, or your spouse, is the type that gets excited about gadgets covered in Swarovski crystals, then you probably don't care that Peter found the Olympus E-P1 to be just an average performer and nothing special. You also probably have the disposable cash to pay a $2,000 premium over the sticker price.

Olympus China confirms the E-P2 Micro Four Thirds camera

There was a rumor a few weeks ago that Olympus was going to launch another Micro Four Thirds camera before the end of the year dubbed the E-P2. This guy was suppose to have a rangefinder and hopefully be done up in the same retro fashion as the E-P1. Well, it looks like the camera will indeed be announced soon according to this somewhat official leak.

The retrotastic Olympus E-P1 launched last month with much fanfare. (not pictured above) It turned out to be an alright camera as Peter found out. You may want to hold off buying one just yet though. There might be another version coming soon if this rumor is correct.
