EA Sports sez Spain will win the World Cup, USA crashes out in second round

Another day, another EA Sports prediction, World Cup edition. According to the latest game, EA Sports FIFA World Cup 2010, MIGHTY SPAIN will win the tournament. That's funny, because as I write this Spain can't even score a goal against South Korea...

Spy report: EA Sports’ FIFA World Cup 2010

Yes, it's about time that I write about FIFA World Cup 2010, which I played at some snazzy EA event about a week ago. Jimin and I played half a game—I was Côte d'Ivoire and Jimin was South Korea—and I totally bashed his brains in, 2-0 at half-time. After the EA guy asked me if I was more used to Pro Evolution Soccer-style controls, and I was, he's like, “Oh, then switch the control style to Style B.” Then Les Éléphants were running wild!

EA readying ‘realistic-looking’ sports accessories for Nintendo platforms

Electronic Arts apparently thinks that there’s still some gold in them thar Wii accessory hills, as the company has announced a line of “realistic-looking EA SPORTS golf clubs, tennis rackets and baseball bats for the Wii and Nintendo DSi as well as fitness gear for use with EA SPORTS Active.” EA has partnered with accessory maker Sakar to develop everything.

  • Fans to choose next Madden Curse victim

Fans to choose next Madden Curse victim

If I were Jared Allen, Drew Brees, or Reggie Wayne, I’d run screaming from Doritos and EA Sports. Whether you believe in the Madden Curse or not, the fact remains that just about every player that’s appeared on the cover of one of EA Sports’ Madden games has suffered a serious injury or seen his once-dominant playing ability severely decline. So for Madden NFL 11, Doritos and EA have teamed up to let football fans “log on to www.doritoschangethegame.com to vote daily for one of three nominees for the Madden NFL 11 cover.” The nominees, of course, being Jared Allen, Drew Brees, and Reggie Wayne.

EA to broadcast Strikeforce fight on EA Sports MMA Web site on Saturday

Strikeforce will air, for free, an MMA fight on the EA Sports MMA Web site this Saturday. It's Jay Hieron vs. Joe Riggs, which is just one fight that's part of a much larger card, one headlined by Nick Diaz vs. Marius Žaromskis. Presumably Mr. Diaz has put down his pipe long enough to pass the required tests.

So EA Sports was right: Manny beats Miguel

Short and to the point: Manny Pacquiao beat Miguel Cotto in round 12 on Saturday night via TKO. So EA Sports' prediction was right in that Pacquiao won the fight.

Fight Night Round 4 (and everyone else on planet earth) predicts a Pacquiao win

I know something about MMA, but I know next to nothing about boxing. Yet even I can laugh about the latest EA Sports prediction, via Fight Night 4, that says that Manny Pacquiao will beat Miguel Cotto this weekend. I laugh because saying Pacquiao will win the fight is like saying the sun will rise in the morning. (Now watch Cotto knock out Pacquiao in the first.)

Don’t forget to see Fedor knock out Rogers, both of EA Sports MMA, tonight

Consider this a friendly reminder. Tonight at 9pm ET on CBS (in the U.S.; I'm sure there will be plenty of streams, though, which you can find on your own) two of the big stars from EA's upcoming EA Sports MMA video game will hit each other very hard. Fedor Emelianenko, the big Russian guy who could well be the best MMA fighter of all time (or is that Sakuraba?), will fight Brett Rogers, of whom I know nothing.

The NBA starts tomorrow, and so does NBA Live 10’s Dynamic Season Mode

A little birdie, also known as an e-mail, tells me that EA Sports will flip the switch on Dynamic Season Mode in NBA Live 10 tomorrow. Well, for the Xbox 360 version; PS3 owners will have to wait till Thursday. This, of course, coincides with the start of the new NBA season, to be won, according to that same NBA Live 10, by the Cavs.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 knocks FIFA 10 off its little perch, becomes top selling game in Europe

Believe it or not, but FIFA 10 isn't the only soccer game around. In fact, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 just came out in Europe, and was the top selling game there last week. Not the top selling sports game, but the top selling game overall. Yeah, it's big.

Peter Moore: Yeah, disc-based games will go the way of the [insert extinct animal here]

Looks like EA finally understands what we've been talking about for a while now: that, in just a few year's time, we'll look back at disc-based media (here, video games) and be all, “Man, how quaint.” Peter Moore, who's the president of EA Sports (no minor position, that), called the disc-based distribution model a “burning platform,” and that companies are either staring in the face of “probable” death or “certain” death, depending on how they want to go about things.

Video: Fighter freaks out over his terrible stats at EA Sports MMA meeting

“Funny” videos on the Internet are often abysmal, but this one I like. I'd describe it, but suffice to say, that's why it's a video. For. You. To. Watch.

EA Sports finally gets into the sports biz

After years of training nerds to win on the electronic playing fields, EA Sports finally takes a step out of the virtual realm and produces a gaming platform that requires actual skill. This isn’t going to be pretty. [@ian_cummings via Kotaku]

U.S. Soccer looks to EA Sports to help develop next generation of pros

You would think that with a population of 300 million the U.S. would be a little better at soccer than it currently is. Not that the US Mens National Team is terrible—its victory against Spain in the Confederations Cup in June was all kinds of great—but we're (yup, Royal We time) not exactly known as a “world power,” mentioned in the same breath with Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil, and Argentina. In steps... EA? Yup, we just got word that EA Sports, makers of FIFA 10, has teamed up with US Soccer to develop and promote a series of training videos that young players can use to improve their game. Is is enough to to give some future USMT the World Cup one day? US Soccer certainly has high hopes.
