Both EA and Konami have revealed details regarding the next FIFA, called FIFA Soccer 10 in the U.S., and Pro Evolution Soccer, called Pro Evolution Soccer 11, games, respectively. The first detail: they exist. There was approximately a zero percent chance that EA and Konami wouldn't continue with the franchises, but you and I know that big corporations make terrible decisions all the time. EA's big new feature is called Personality+, and it aims to make each player in the game as much like the player in real life. That is, Messi should be able to waltz pass defenders in-game as he does for Barcelona week in, week out, while Michael Carrick should be able to complete one pass in 50 as he does for Manchester United. (Exaggerated for effect. folks, so calm down.)

A new trailer just posted to the Medal of Honor Web site pretty much checks all the boxes on the Big Checklist of FPS Trailer requirements. Sad, dramatic music; military man talking to his wife on the phone in a reassuring manner "I love you, we're OK because we're trained for this sort of thing, don't forget to have the car inspected," etc.; flash, bang, explosion, fade to black. I really don't know how many of these games I can take. That's not saying it'll be a bad game—I played it, and it is, in fact, quite good&,dash;but I do believe I'm tiring of playing toy soldier.

Be on the lookout for a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 update sometime this week, probably by Wednesday. Most of the changes affect the multi-portion of the game, something that I’ve participated in for, oh, 18 seconds before dying, cursing, then never playing again. True story!

It looks crazy, yes, and that finely tuned opinion—"it looks crazy"—is based on the Xbox 360 version. But if we believe Crytek's business development boss, then the game runs even better on the PS3 than it does the Xbox 360. The games may look identical, or extraordinarily close to it, but the Xbox 360 is being pushed far harder than the PS3. You probably already knew that, yes.

It's basically he said, she said, only involving lawsuits, hired goons, and Activision, the least popular video game publisher according to a recent GameFaqs poll. Yes, I just cited a GameFaqs poll. West and Zampella didn't like the way Activision were treating them, and Activision alleges that the two were looking to leave Infinity Ward and perhaps start up a new studio under the watchful eye (and with the gigantic bank account) of EA. Funnily enough, West and Zampella have done just that, forming a new development studio called Respawn Entertainment. Wonder how Dice, makers of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, feels about all of this?

The game is doing quite well for EA, having already sold 2.3 million units (and projected to sell 4 million by the end of the year). So that's ahead of expectations—it's a hit, have a party. The thing that annoys me (and Matt, for that matter) is the game's implementation of checkpoints. There's not nearly enough of them, and it's infuriating.
Since we're your go-to source for complaining about DRM, I figure we should mention the latest development regarding EA's Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Dice, the game's developer's, have removed SecuROM DRM from both the retail version of the game as well as the digitally distributed one (i.e. Steam). Why a Steam game even needs SecuROM in the first place (it's merely a disc check, so...) is a question I cannot answer. It's probably like a contractual thing or something.

When will this nonsense with online DRM stop? Ubisoft’s authentication servers were apparently attacked and therefore offline, but now they’re back. Now EA servers crashed for an hour this morning, locking players out of numerous gamings including Bad Company 2. This is crazy. DRM isn’t going anywhere but this current implementation simply isn’t stable enough. Suggestions?

Most of your friendly neighborhood CrunchGear writers have played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for at least a little bit. We have different opinions about the game, but I think we all like it to a degree. I bought it for two reason: the Eurogamer review was glowing, and I wanted to support Modern Warfare 2's most direct competitor. Genres grow stale when one game/publisher so utterly dominates it, so $50 EA's way hopefully will go toward keeping the FPS genre as fresh as it can be. I mean, there's but so many ways you can make "put-cursor-over-man's-face-and-left-click" before you're like, "Man, I'm bored, let's go bowling."

While Palm's Pre is many things to many people it still can't game. Oh sure, it'll play Magic Fortune Ball like a champ but when it comes to intensive 3D action the Pre is as helpless as a would-be terrorist trying to ignite his underwear. See, webOS and the Mojo SDK currently can't exploit the GPU the way other smartphone platforms can. Rewind a few weeks, however, and we're reminded of a video showing EA's Need for Speed Undercover running impossibly smooth on a Pre. At the time, the video and claims of the device running Flash were shot down as fake largely due to the accompanying screen caps of the purportedly new App Catalog. Well guess what? Those screen caps were vindicated today with the webOS 1.3.5 update that just so happened to launch a new App Catalog matching the leaked images, exactly. That lends credence to the video then doesn't it, while hinting at future apps and games with full OpenGL graphics support. Is that the big reveal at CES alongside enhanced Pre+ and Pixi+ handsets headed to Big Red? We'll find out shortly enough -- until then check the gameplay after the break.
