First screenshots of Medal of Honor sure do look familiar…
Posted on March 11, 2010 | No CommentsFresh from EA, here’s the very first screenshots of Medal of Honor, currently scheduled for release this fall. It’s quite modern, if you catch my drift. The game was on display at the same EA event where Jimin and I played FIFA World Cup 2010 last week. There’s very little point in spending many words [...] -
EA servers crash as Ubisoft gets back online
Posted on March 9, 2010 | No CommentsWhen will this nonsense with online DRM stop? Ubisoft’s authentication servers were apparently attacked and therefore offline, but now they’re back. Now EA servers crashed for an hour this morning, locking players out of numerous gamings including Bad Company 2. This is crazy. DRM isn’t going anywhere but this current implementation simply isn’t stable enough. Suggestions? -
Let’s talk about Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No CommentsMost of your friendly neighborhood CrunchGear writers have played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for at least a little bit. We have different opinions about the game, but I think we all like it to a degree. I bought it for two reason: the Eurogamer review was glowing, and I wanted to support Modern Warfare 2's most direct competitor. Genres grow stale when one game/publisher so utterly dominates it, so $50 EA's way hopefully will go toward keeping the FPS genre as fresh as it can be. I mean, there's but so many ways you can make "put-cursor-over-man's-face-and-left-click" before you're like, "Man, I'm bored, let's go bowling."

EA to broadcast Strikeforce fight on EA Sports MMA Web site on Saturday
Posted on January 27, 2010 | No Comments
Strikeforce will air, for free, an MMA fight on the EA Sports MMA Web site this Saturday. It's Jay Hieron vs. Joe Riggs, which is just one fight that's part of a much larger card, one headlined by Nick Diaz vs. Marius Žaromskis. Presumably Mr. Diaz has put down his pipe long enough to pass the required tests.

EA planning massacre of online services for games that aren’t all that old
Posted on January 4, 2010 | No Comments
Let’s say you’re a company that makes video games – sports games in particular – and you generate a nice recurring stream of revenue by putting out new versions of your sports games every year to coincide with the new seasons of each sport. But let’s also say that some of your customers don’t buy the newest versions because they’ve discovered almost endless replayability of the older versions thanks to online multiplayer features. What a pickle!

Palm Pre plays Need for Speed, undercover (video)
Posted on December 29, 2009 | No CommentsWhile Palm's Pre is many things to many people it still can't game. Oh sure, it'll play Magic Fortune Ball like a champ but when it comes to intensive 3D action the Pre is as helpless as a would-be terrorist trying to ignite his underwear. See, webOS and the Mojo SDK currently can't exploit the GPU the way other smartphone platforms can. Rewind a few weeks, however, and we're reminded of a video showing EA's Need for Speed Undercover running impossibly smooth on a Pre. At the time, the video and claims of the device running Flash were shot down as fake largely due to the accompanying screen caps of the purportedly new App Catalog. Well guess what? Those screen caps were vindicated today with the webOS 1.3.5 update that just so happened to launch a new App Catalog matching the leaked images, exactly. That lends credence to the video then doesn't it, while hinting at future apps and games with full OpenGL graphics support. Is that the big reveal at CES alongside enhanced Pre+ and Pixi+ handsets headed to Big Red? We'll find out shortly enough -- until then check the gameplay after the break.
[Thanks, Brian K.]Continue reading Palm Pre plays Need for Speed, undercover (video)

Congratulations, FIFA 10: You’re the fastest selling sports game of all time
Posted on October 7, 2009 | No CommentsMy fellow Americans! I just wanted to let you know that, yes, there are other countries in the world (WHAT?!), and none of them give a damn about the Madden franchise. EA just revealed that FIFA 10 (which I haven't played, but that's OK; I hear it's good) is the fastest selling sports game of all time! So says a fancy e-mail we just received. Olé-lé, olá-lá, ser del Barça és el millor que hi ha!

Posted on October 3, 2009 | No CommentsHere's the latest movie based on a video game that's sure to be horrendous: Spore will be turned into a movie, ladies and gentlemen! Only five people will be allowed in the theaters at a time in order to prevent piracy, jkjk!

No, Microsoft will not buy EA. Just sayin’.
Posted on September 24, 2009 | No CommentsWhere did this rumor that Microsoft wanted to buy EA start? You know what, it doesn't matter where it started, because it's not true. No, Microsoft has no plans to buy EA, so don't sweat the technique ($1 if you get that reference).

Review: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra video game (PS3)
Posted on August 24, 2009 | No CommentsI’m not sure where to even begin. In the months leading up to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, I made the decision to avoid all trailers for the movie and opt out of all hands on demos of the game. I knew the movie was going to suck, but I had a glimmer of [...] -

Fedor, the star of EA MMA game, passes over UFC, signs with rival promotion
Posted on August 4, 2009 | No CommentsI'm sure you've all heard by now, but just in case: Fedor will not be fighting in the UFC any time soon, as he has signed a contract with rival promotion Strikeforce. So if you're were hoping, one day, to see him fight Brock Lesnar, well, it looks like you're out of luck.

EA game doesn’t appear to be stumbling block for Fedor to fight in UFC
Posted on August 1, 2009 | No CommentsHere's an update to something I touched on the other day: Does Fedor's inclusion in EA's MMA video game preclude him from fighting in the UFC? Apparently not, if you believe what UFC president Dana White said at a press conference yesterday.
