It's finally here. After months of anticipation, the launch of Apple's iPhone 4 is upon us, and dozens of people are currently lined up in front of San Francisco's flagship Apple store to get their hands on one. Unfortunately, not everyone is fortunate enough to live close to an Apple Store (or has the time to go stand in line at this ridiculous hour). Which is why I'm braving the early morning once again to give you all a vicarious taste of Apple's devotees at their finest.

I'm equipped with a Nexus One live streaming with Qik. Last time I faced this line during the launch of the iPad, I had an Apple sticker covering the Nexus's Google logo to throw any particularly rabid Apple fans off the scent. Unfortunately it seems that I've exhausted my supply of Apple stickers — this could get nasty.

There's certainly no shortage of so-called mobility robots, but major Japanese robot maker tmsuk's offering seems to be quite cool. In fact, the RODEM (short for "Robot De Enjoy Mobility") is being pitched as a mix between robot, wheelchair and ultra-small vehicle (or "Universal Vehicle" [JP, PDF], in tmsuk's marketing language).

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is no stranger to waiting in line outside of the Valley Fair Apple store in San Jose; He found his way to the front of the line for the launch of the original iPhone, and then joined it again for the subsequent launches of the iPhone 3G S and the iPad.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Woz is camped out at that very location right this second, awaiting the launch of the iPhone 4.

One of the best manga ever created, Akira, is going to the big screen. And this time, it won't be an anime (like the one from 1988) but a live-action film. We first reported about plans to shoot the live-action remake, whose rights were bought by Leonardo DiCaprio's production company, Appian Way, back in February 2008. The idea was scrapped a few months later, until New York Magazine wrote in February this year the studio is in negotiations with the Hughes Brothers (who directed "The Book Of Eli") to direct the movie.

If I've said it once I've said it 1,000 times: the best way to stay safe online is to keep your wits about you and not to venture off into the darker corners of the Internet, if you know what I mean. I bring this up because there's a nasty bit of kit out there that means to attack unsuspecting Mac users. It sorta makes sense from the malware creator's perspective: Mac users tend to operate under the assumption that they're immune from malware because A) their numbers are too few to be a juicy target B) their system is inherently more secure. You can debate point B all day long, but as Apple sells more and more Macs you can bet that miscreants will be targeting the platform with increasing frequency.

Japan's most famous Otaku culture blogger Danny Choo invited video games/anime/manga/Cosplay/figures/maid cafe fanatics from all over the country last weekend, and about 200 showed up at Digital Hollywood University for the eighth "CGM Night" (here's my report on the last one).

The idea is to bring Otaku and geeks out of their rooms and socialize among people of their kind. Needless to say, I was one of them (I live in Tokyo).

Whether we're talking about the EVO-challenging Droid X or the QWERTY-sliding Droid 2, Verizon's had one hell of a time keeping the latest additions to their Droid lineup under wraps lately.

Of course, just because some of the juicier details have already spilled out doesn't mean Verizon won't make a big fuss when they're ready for it to be officially official. They'll be be pulling back the curtains on what they're calling the "Next Generation of DROID" in just a few minutes -- and, as usual, we'll be there to cover it live.
