Samsung Galaxy Beam: world’s first Android projector phone on sale in July

Ah, here we go, Samsung's other cellphone with an integrated projector just got an official launch date. The Galaxy Beam (codename: Halo) with its 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display is now slated to hit Singapore in July. That means that the European and broader launch across Asia should be just around the corner if Samsung's claims from Feburary hold true. At launch, the world's first Android phone with a built-in DLP pico projector will be served version 2.1 of Google's confectionary delight. Specwise, we're talking 7.2Mbps HSPA data on 900/1900/2100MHz and quad-band GSM/EDGE, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n WiFi, an 8 megapixel autofocus camera with flash (front-facing VGA) and HD video recording, A-GPS, FM Radio, and an 1,800mAH battery. Memory is confusingly listed as "4Gb + 2Gb + 1Gb + 16Gb MoviNAND" made worse by no mention of microSD though it was definitely there when we went hands-on with Beam at Mobile World Congress. Specs after the break.

  • Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun

Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun

I spent a few hours last night playing the Halo: Reach multi-player beta. (Microsoft sent out a few early invites to writing-guys like me, but the beta opens to Halo: ODST owners today.) It's been a while since I've played a Halo game for any real amount of time. I dabbled with Halo 3's multi-player for a little while there, but that was two years ago. First impression of the Reach beta: absence makes the heart grow fonder. CrunchGear: your home for old man idioms.

Set your clocks, Halo: Reach Beta intro to be shown at 11:00am PDT

In a rather strange move for a video game, Bungie will be showing off the Halo: Reach Beta today via Halo 3: ODST's main menu. This video will star Beta's actress, comedienne, and weapons expert, Aisha Tyler. Chances are the video will find its way onto YouTube by the end of the day just in case you don't have ODST. The Halo: Reach Beta Guide is also now up for your perusal. The May 3rd beta launch is getting closer and closer. Oh man. It's next week.

Bungie: The Halo 2 big E3 reveal back in 2003 was ’smoke and mirrors’

Well now this is mildly embarrassing. Six years ago, Bungieshowed off, and I guess I use that term loosely now, Halo 2 for the very first time. Let's see... 2003, that would make me 17. Trivia! Anyhow, what Bungie showed was a complete hunk of nonsense. This is where you act surprised.

Watch and laugh as Peter Ha and Lev Grossman are pwnd by a 11-year old in Halo 3 and Madden. Tools. Just more proof that Peter Ha probably shouldn’t be writing about video games for a living. I’m kidding, Peter. Much love.

  • Everything you need to know about Halo: Reach

Everything you need to know about Halo: Reach

Bungie has done a great job of making fans salivate over Halo: Reach by keeping most the aspects of the game under wraps. Thus far, all the info we have been able to discern has come from the trailers which Bungie released--until now. Yesterday, leaked pictures (shown below) of an upcoming Game Informer magazine hit the web, and the information is quite revealing. It looks like the team at Bungie is going all out on this title. The magazine deals mostly with the campaign--profiling new weapons, characters, and vehicles, but tidbits regarding the multiplayer experience were included as well. All the info we have gathered is after the jump.

Halo: Reach Trailer to Come in Two Days

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this. This Saturday at 8 PM, I know without a doubt I will be sitting on my couch, watching Spike TV. There are only two things which could cause me to do this. One would be if the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was moved from CBS to Spike. The other, which will actually be happening, is to watch the Video Game Awards, where the global unveiling of Halo: Reach is going down. Given what Bungie has done thus far with the Halo series, I expect nothing short of greatness from Reach, which is slated to drop in Q4, 2010.

Huge stash of HTC Android codenames found within 2.1 ROM

You know that leaked HTC Sense ROM with Android 2.1 underneath? Well, somebody did some digging and found a wild stack of HTC Android handset codenames buried within. It starts in the realm of the familiar, with mentions of Dragon, Passion, Dream and Hero, but then it starts to get a little wild. Here's the full list: Bahamas, Bravo, DesireC, Dragon, Dream, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Hero, Huangshan, Incredible, Legend, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Passion, Sapphire and Supersonic. Pretty wild, right? There's no telling what exactly this list implies, other than the fact that Passion and Dragon are indeed on the books, and that HTC's naming department can really let the superlatives fly, but we're sure all will be made clear over the next year or two.

District 9 director hasn’t totally ruled out returning to Halo movie

Not too long ago, we gave our thoughts on the movie District 9. We did so because it was a big sci-fi movie, and that's just close enough to the tech-science nexus on which we operate that it justified a quick post. Seeing as though it's the weekend, and you really all ought to be watching La Liga or playing 360/PS3, we'll just take two minutes to highlight this interview with the movie's director, Neill Blomkamp.
