Do you play video games? Are you agoraphobic? Have we got a job for you

A "market-leading gaming console company" hired (probably Microsoft) a contact center provider, Alpine Access in Denver, to provide phone support. But they can't find 200 or so video gamers who are willing to walk parents through how to pull a grilled cheese sandwich out of the optical drive near Denver so they're going to that hotbed of excellent and stable talent: housebound Internet fans.
Their site, www.alpineaccess.com/superhero/, offers the opportunity to apply to a work-from-home job with benefits, competitive wages, and the opportunity to talk about video games.
Anyway, if you're out of a job and you think about Bayonetta when you spend alone time, this may work. Give it a go.

As much as we love Apple products here at CrunchGear, sometimes we don't particularly care for Apple the company. Realistically, if you look at their track record, there's quite an interesting list of abuses towards their customers with the supposedly untouchable Steve Jobs at the center of it all.

Ahh Steve. You can always be depended on to serve up a healthy dose of crazy. It's just fortunate that people put up with your own special brand of crazy that no other CEO could put up with. For example, at a company wide Town Hall, Steve Jobs had some very special things to say about Adobe and Google and their business practices.

Linux skills now more employable than ever

When I first started using Linux, back in the late 1990s and the Red Hat 5.2 era, the skills I gained weren't very useful to many employers. I initially hoped that learning Linux would help me spring into some kind of "real" UNIX job. Now, more than a decade later, Linux is more and more common, has replaced a lot of "real" UNIX systems, and the skills required to administer Linux systems are actually helpful when looking for a job. Linux is found in networks and appliances all over, and the monoculture of Microsoft hegemony is slowing fading. According to the Linux Foundation, Linux-related jobs have grown 80% since 2005.

Nokia furloughing up to 20 percent of employees at only Finnish factory

Of its nine factories around the world, Nokia has just one in its home country -- the only one left in all of Western Europe -- in the town of Salo. As you can imagine, its well-being is probably a pretty touchy subject, not just for locals but for Nokia fans around the world -- especially when you consider that the company's highest-end devices are assembled here, making the health of the factory a bellwether for the health of the coolest models in the range. The company has revealed this week that it'll be sending home up to 20 percent of the plant's staff for up to 90 days at any one time, saying that there's simply no need for it to operate at full capacity in the current market; we say you could argue that making the right phones could lead to a need for full capacity, but what do we know? RIM posts job listing for ‘WebKit Developer,’ gets one step closer to a real browser

Needed some more evidence that future BlackBerrys may be getting a much needed improvement in the browser department? You got it. Following up on the news that Research In Motion has acquired Torch Mobile (developers of the WebKit-based Iris browser), the Candian phonemaker is now looking to fill the position of "WebKit Developer," according to a job listing. The posting calls for a number of skills which would come in handy whilst creating a next-gen browser for the BlackBerry OS, clearly calling for someone with hands-on experience coding... WebKit style. Look, if you love Canada and hate the BlackBerry browser, here's your chance to make the world a better place. What are you waiting for?
