Baby Bidou mp3 player. You know, for kids
Posted on February 19, 2010 | No Comments
I always say that you're never to young to start with your first gadget. This is an example of that theory, taken maybe a little more serious then I would normally consider reasonable. How old do you need to be to have your first MP3 player?

Wi-Fi school bus keeps kids quiet
Posted on February 12, 2010 | No Comments
A school district in Arizona has outfitted one of its school buses with a $200 mobile 3G Wi-Fi router and $60-per-month access. And guess what? Instead of punching each other and yelling all the way to school, the kids quietly tap, tap, tap away on their laptops.

Star Wars Play-Doh: May the Force be pliable and starchy smelling
Posted on January 21, 2010 | No Comments
This Star Wars Play-Doh playset is for ages three AND UP – you’re all part of “and up” unless you’re a really smart baby who reads tech blogs for some reason. If you are such a baby, please apply for an internship. We’ll take anybody – anybody – who can appeal to toddlers. That’s a huge, untapped demographic for us and it’d be nice to write for people at or around our same level of intellect, maturity, and tableside manners.

Shock study: Kids spend a lot of time online, using their phones
Posted on January 20, 2010 | No CommentsIt was only five years ago that kids between the ages of 8 and 18 "only" spent 6.5 hours online. Today, these same kids (well, the same age group) now spend some 7.5 hours online per day between the computer and their mobile. That may not sound like a much until you ask: where did these kids find an entire extra hour to mess around online? It's even crazier when you consider that many of these hours are spent multi-tasking—watching YouTube while listening to iTunes, for example. If you think of it like that, then you can say that kids today are cramming 11 hours of media consumption per day into that 7.5-hour window. Remember: it was only a few years ago that these same kids would have been working in the textile factories of Manchester, so let's not feel too bad for them.

Man builds Vespa rocking horse for grandchild, jealousy for everyone else
Posted on October 14, 2009 | No Comments
Here is a photo of the luckiest kid in the world. Look at that cute little face. He seems to be saying “I have a Vespa rocking horse. Do you have a Vespa rocking horse? Where do you keep your Vespa rocking horse? I’m but a small child so I can only assume that all other children have a Vespa rocking horse just like mine.”

Kodomo No Nomimono: Beer for kids
Posted on October 12, 2009 | No CommentsAfter a long, hard day of… playing with toys, watching cartoons, and napping, nothing spells refreshment like a frosty glass of Kodomo No Nomimono – a phrase which I can only assume means something close to "beer for kids" in Japanese.

Swinxs now shipping, kids everywhere told what to do by strange man in a box
Posted on August 28, 2009 | No Comments
So this is a weird thing. It's kind of like an electronic camp counselor and it's called Swinxs. Kids wear RFID bracelets and then the box tells you to do stuff like run around and play hide and seek. You check in with the box by moving your RFID band near the box.
There are 25 games so far, most of which involve running around and then coming back to the box for further instructions. Parents can also make their own games including, presumably, my Dad's old favorites, Go to the Store and Get Me Some Beer and This Is What You Get When You Spill Paint in the Garage.

Office Kid: Fake child, real excuse to leave work
Posted on August 24, 2009 | No Comments
Anyone who's had to deal with co-workers in any capacity knows that kids trump all office-related priorities, leaving those of us without kids to do most of the heavy lifting while working parents leave for five hours every day to chauffeur their little, jobless a-holes to the emergency room every time one of them sneezes.
UK-based Lok8u (Get it? Locate you?) is a GPS-enabled wristwatch meant to be worn by children. The watch also features a built-in cell signal, too, which enables location information to be relayed rapidly to parents while waiting for the GPS chip to get its bearings or when there’s no line-of-sight to GPS satellites.
