Nikon patents strange LCD screen
Posted on April 29, 2010 | No Comments
Patents are always so much fun, and such a source of random speculation. Take for example this new LCD display from Nikon. What could it be? Is it for a DLSR? Maybe for video? No one knows, and of course Nikon isn't talking, but it's interesting to put your best guess out there.

Geotagging is pretty popular these days, but for the most part you have to buy an additional hardware. JOBO makes one such device, the photoGPS, that's been around for a while. They just announced two new versions, photoGPS 2 and the photoGPS 4. The new models offer improved reception, battery life, and storage. All in all a worthy successor to their original product.

Posted on April 15, 2010 | No Comments
Here's a little DIY project for you Nikon shooters out there. Certain models of the Nikon DSLR support IR remotes, but to buy an actual "Nikon" brand remote from your local camera shoppe will set you back around $40. Why not built one yourself instead?

Nikon developing a Canon G11 rival?
Posted on March 3, 2010 | No Comments
The Canon PowerShot G series have always been one of the best compact shooters available. See that pic above? I shot that back in 2003 with a G3. Beautiful, isn't? That's Camp Tapico in Northern Michigan, where I spent every summer of my teenage life. Anyway, word on the street is that Nikon wants some of the action that the G series has enjoyed all by itself for so long. Better late then never, Nikon.

And here we have two demo videos from the Nikon D3s
Posted on October 14, 2009 | No CommentsThe Nikon D3s is finally official. Nikon updated a few items in its flagship DSLR including the addition of a 720p video mode. Camera nerds are still curious where their 1080p mode is, but these demo videos show that the 720p video is at least YouTube quality. One more after the jump. -
Review: Nikon D300s DSLR
Posted on October 8, 2009 | No CommentsShort version: If you are familiar with the Nikon D300, then you can just expect more of the same. The D300s doesn’t do anything ground breaking, but what it does is add some nice features to an already excellent DSLR — most importantly, HD video and SD card support. The D300s is the latest version of [...] -

Rumor: Nikon is releasing a clone of the Leica X1
Posted on October 6, 2009 | No Comments
So we've known that something was coming, but we weren't sure exactly what. We still don't know for certain what Nikon is up to on the 15th, but that whole is looking better and better. It's not a huge surprise really, since the new Leica's have really been in the news lately.

Get that wallet ready, Nikon's annual instant rebate program is starting on the 28th. Pretty much always a good deal, Nikon loves to tempt the weak with their instant rebate offers on lenses and gear that they roll out on a yearly basis. Case in point - I bought my D300 back in 2008 (with the oh so popular 18-200 VR) and justified it to my wife as a "really great deal" because of the rebate. Luckily she's a patient woman, and we're still married.
You and your hot friends now can figure out who to incorporate a Nikon camera with projector embedded inside it into your great, amazing lives. Thank you YouTube viral video by some marketing agency!
