Acer looking to launch super thin laptop with ‘touch keyboard’ this year?
Posted on March 8, 2010 | No Comments
Touchscreen keyboard sentiment can be divided into two camps: those who don’t mind it and those who can’t do without a physical keyboard. If you’re part of the first camp, you may be excited to hear that Acer might just be working on a notebook so thin that it uses a frameless screen and touch keyboard, according to DigiTimes.

ViewSonic ultraportable swaps out optical drive with extended battery
Posted on February 23, 2010 | No Comments
ViewSonic’s 13.3-inch ViewBook Pro (VNB131) promises up to 8-hour battery life with the standard 6-cell battery but you can also swap out the built-in optical drive with an included 3-cell battery slice for an extra four hours of juice. That’s a nice touch for anyone who’s on the go a lot but still needs to be able to work with disc-based media from time to time.

The new MSi Classic Series CX520 and CR620 notebooks rock Core i5 or i3 CPUs
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
Intel's Core i5 and i3 CPUs have found a new home in MSi's latest notebook offerings. The CX520 and CR20 Classic Series combine otherwise standard specs and a 15.6-inch 16:9 screen with the powerful cores. Both seem like solid rigs although you'll likely pass over them in favor of something a bit more flashy.

Sony VAIO Z Series: Core i7 CPU, four SSDs, 13.1 inches at 3.2 pounds
Posted on January 19, 2010 | No Comments
Carbon fiber, people. That’s the ticket right there. It’s the miracle substance that allows Sony to stuff super fast components into a 13.1-inch laptop while keeping the weight at around 3.2 pounds. And while most ultraportable notebooks favor style over substance, the impending VAIO Z Series due from Sony in March will feature an Intel Core i7 CPU, NVIDIA graphics, 1920x1080 screen resolution, and the ability to stack four solid state drives in a Raid 0 configuration. Again, all at just over three pounds.

Actually you can't really walk into a consumer electronics store, period, since they’re closing up faster than costume shops the day after Halloween. But that's another story for another time. While traditional netbooks sales will almost certainly [...] -
Acer outs 18.4-inch Core i7 laptop, I shall call it GIGANTOR!
Posted on November 3, 2009 | No Comments
Acer’s new 18.4-inch AS8940G-6865 is a desktop replacement. And by “desktop replacement” I mean that you could attach four legs to it and use it as your desk. It’s big, is what I’m trying to say. Don’t actually attach legs to it, but I guess take with you the impression that this is a large laptop. Also, it’s powerful, so keep that in mind as well.
If you’re looking for a middle-of-the-road desktop replacement without breaking the bank, you may find that Sony’s new VAIO E Series suits your needs. Starting at around $800, you get an Intel Core i3 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, HDMI out, Bluetooth, and Windows 7.
