Posted on March 12, 2010 | No Comments
I received the Entourage eDGe review unit the other day, and have been playing with it quite a bit. A full review is coming soon, but suffice to say that I like what I've seen so far. Here are a handful of photos to whet your appetite for my forthcoming review!

Sony Ericsson Kurara suffers leakage, reveals HD label?
Posted on November 5, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Sony Ericsson, Symbian
Boy, we sure do love our early glimpses of pre-release hardware, and today we have not one, but two sources of purported pictures of the Sony Ericsson Kurara. Touted as a sibling to the Satio, the Kurara is mooted to have a 3.5-inch AMOLED touch-sensitive screen, 8.1 megapixel camera and, wait for it, 720p video recording. The image above seems to confirm this with a big "HD" inscription next to the camera lens, but that label is missing in the gallery below. We'll just put that inconsistency down to the extremely early samples on show, and start getting all frothed up in excitement over the possible UX inclusion on this Symbian S60 device when it starts selling in the first half of 2010.

Sony Ericsson lets XPERIA X10 videos and press shots loose
Posted on November 3, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Sony Ericsson, GSM, HSDPA, Android
If you weren't up all night following Engadget (and why wouldn't you be?), the first place you'll want to visit this morning is our extensive hands-on of Sony Ericsson's inaugural foray into Android territory. There you'll find the full XPERIA X10 announcement details and spec sheet, which is highlighted by a 4-inch capacitive display and a deeply customized user interface. With plenty of time to go before that first quarter of 2010 release date, though, we thought we'd get the anticipation revved up a few notches with a selection of handsome images of the device below, and a pair of videos -- one a spit-polished advertising promo, the other a useful demo of Speed Forge 3D -- after the break.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 announced, we go hands-on
Posted on November 2, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Sony Ericsson, Android
The first Android device from Sony Ericsson may have undergone an upgrade in the naming department, jumping from X3 all the way to XPERIA X10 (probably to avoid confusion with Nokia's X3 handset), but what lies under the hood is reassuringly in line with what we've been hearing. That is to say, a 1GHz Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm, wide 4-inch capacitive touch display, 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash, and a thoroughly tricked out Android skin named Rachael. Sony Ericsson stressed to us the symbiotic importance of both the new flagship device and "open OS" UI -- they see the X10 as the patriarch of a whole new family of handsets, which we can expect to see in the first half of 2010, all sporting the beauty of Rachael and perhaps helping to bridge the gap between featurephones and, well, more advanced featurephones. So don't be shy, come along to Engadget Classic to see our full and uncensored first impressions of both, along with hands-on video and pictures.Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 announced, we go hands-on originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 02 Nov 2009 23:00:00 EST. HTC Droid Eris peeks its head out once more, shows off 5MP camera
Posted on October 29, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, HTC, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, Android
Hey, HTC -- we're onto you. We know you're a little upset that the lower-end Droid Eris isn't getting much attention now that the DROID is all over Verizon's marketing agenda, but it's not like we don't feel your pain. For those interested in spending a full Benjamin less on their next Android handset (on Big Red, anyway), the Droid Eris looks to offer that very solution, and now a few more sneak peeks have shown that a 5 megapixel camera (with a video record mode) is gracing the rear. We're also told that WiFi will be onboard (right, VZW?), and a bundle of joy will also be thrown in after mail-in rebate. Whatever that means.

LG BL40 New Chocolate review
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, LG, Orange, HSDPA
You know the deal by now: we grab a slab of fresh new hardware, fiddle, play, and tinker with it until exhaustion or boredom is reached, then wax poetic about the whole experience, with a side serving of pictures and videos thrown in. Today's candidate for a grilling is LG's BL40, which is now available in Europe. You'll be familiar with it already from our hands-on look last month, but do join us past the break where we explore what's under the glossy hood in more detail, and give you a definitive answer on just how useful that elongated screen really is.

Samsung’s WinMo 6.5-powered Armani smartphone gets previewed
Posted on October 10, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Samsung, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA
Got a cool grand to drop on a Windows Phone? Oh, yeah? Then have a gander at Samsung's latest fashion piece, the Armani-branded M7500. The cool cats over at PhoneArena managed to get their paws around a unit, and as predicted, they didn't hesitate to bust out the camera and give us all a good look. They also took the chance to give us a brief overview of how the handset handled, calling it "bulky even for a WinMo smartphone," though praising the high-res display and well-spaced keyboard. Feel free to hit the read link if you're interested in more, but don't be shocked to hear more than a little criticism.

You gotta check this out bro, it's a pair of sweet snow goggles with a camera built in. What a great way to record those gnarly shreds and crashes on the slopes. These come from Liquid Image, who released them before CES to try and stand out from the other announcements we're expecting this coming week.
