Posted on May 17, 2010 | No Commentsdigg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Worlds_First_Pico_Projector_iPhone_Camera'; The Moject project proved that smartphones and pico projectors do indeed have a thing for one another, but Ethan Janson has taken things one step further with an unnamed contraption that holds his iPhone 3GS, a Microvision Show WX and an "ancient" point-and-shoot camera. Put simply, the handmade thingamajig allows him to play his iPhone games on a far larger screen, and since the Show WX continually autofocuses regardless of distance from walls, there's never a blurring issue when flailing about in order to control the gameplay. One of the most frustrating things about using a projector is setting up all the cords. You have to connect the video, probably the audio (at least in a business setting) and get the whole thing up and running. If you have a Mac, life gets even more complicated due to the lack of an HDMI or DVI port, which is the industry standard for projectors. InFocus is fixing all that with their new DisplayLink wireless technology.

If you have $15,000 to spare for a new gadget, this might be of interest to you: JVC Japan today announced [press release in English] the DLA-SH7NL, a video projector that features a resolution of almost 10 megapixels (4,096x2,400, to be exact). That's more than four times full HD.

Sanyo promises 4,000 hours of maintenance-free use for new projector

Sanyo Japan announced [press release in English] the LP-WL2500 today, an ultra short-focus projector whose newly developed filter and lamp makes it possible to use the device for long periods without maintenance. To be more specific, Sanyo says they boosted lamp life by 30% (when compared to the previous model) to 4,000 hours. The hybrid filter has the main lifespan, which was 20 times lower previously.

File this under "sounds too good to be true". A Chinese artist has designed a projector into a clamshell, with a built in speaker. The unbelievable part? It's only $50. I question what type of quality you are going to get from a projector that only costs $50.

GREEN SLIM: Casio announces pretty, eco-friendly friendly projectors

One of the few product announcements by a major electronics maker that's not been made at the CES: Casio has unveiled the XJ-A series, which consists of nine projectors that are not only pretty cool-looking but also eco-friendly. The company says the devices are the first to be completely mercury-free. Casio also claims their so-called GREEN SLIM projectors are the world’s first devices of their kind that are bright enough to be used in a well lit room - without using a mercury lamp.

Sony Music Japan has announced a pretty unusual product today, the so-called bdporter [JP]. It's essentially a roll-front cabinet with a set of devices that's geared toward home theater fans who look for a unique piece of furniture. Buyers will get a Sony Blu-ray player, a WXGA projector, surround headphones, active speakers and a 60-inch projector screen.

Anyone looking for the highest-end Windows Mobile experience you can buy on AT&T, go ahead and form a line to the left, please, because your knight in shining armor has arrived. The LG eXpo -- complete with a Snapdragon core, 5 megapixel camera, 3.2-inch WVGA display, fingerprint scanner, QWERTY slide, and optional microprojector -- is now available, albeit at a $199.99 after-rebate, on-contract price that puts it pretty far into the realm of the high-power smartphone elite. LG’s projector-laden eXpo smartphone gets demonstrated on video
Posted on December 6, 2009 | No CommentsThe projector phone mishmash idea has been around (and even demonstrated) for quite some time now, but only recently have we seen one of these two-pronged, hunchbacked monsters land on a major US carrier. LG's eXpo is carrying that crown (or burden, depending on perspective), and while we're itching to get one into our own labs for testing, we'll happily pass along what looks to be the world's first real good look at this handset in action. Make no mistake -- the DLP-based beamer affixed on the back adds quite the bulge, but the actual video performance looks about as good as any dedicated pico projector that we've seen to date. Windows CE-powered mini projector

A pico projector with Windows CE OS 5.0 on board? Yes, there are devices like that. Japan-based Lancerlink announced [JP] one of these today, the MPJ-104WCE. What you get is basically an LCOS (3M) projector with a mini computer built into it (the Windows CE is an English version).
The projector produces 10-30 inch pictures with 640x480 resolution and 10 lumens brightness. There are also two 0.5W speakers built into the body. But sized at just 138.5x58.5x25mm, the device also sports a Samsung ARM 9 processor at 400MHz, 64MB of internal memory (up to 4GB with an SD card), a USB port, an SD card interface and native support for MS Powerpoint, Excel and Word files.

Fujitsu’s splitting F-04B cellphone gets tested, found to contain no Energon cubes

Sometimes you want a phone with a physical keyboard. Sometimes you want one that fits in the back pocket of your skinny jeans. And sometimes, when you're feeling really crazy, you want one with a pico projector. Impossible dream? Not if you're Fujitsu, who have made official the bizarre splitting F-04B first showed as a prototype last year, and AkihabaraNews has managed a hands-on. Both the touchscreen and keyboard portions operate independently and connect via Bluetooth, as does the 854 x 480 projector that can clip on in place of the keyboard. Overall impressions are good, the phone said to be a bit too bulky with the keyboard attached but quite fit with just the screen, and though that LCD didn't get high marks for responsiveness, the 12.2 megapixel camera did. If you're looking for price or release info you're out of luck, but we'd advise against getting any hopes up. Epson develops world’s first 4K-compatible HTPS TFT LCD panel for 3LCD projectors

In June, Epson said it has begun mass-production of the world’s first HTPS-TFT panel boasting WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels). And today, five months later, the same company announced [press release in English] what it claims is the world's first 4K-compatible HTPS (high-temperature polysilicon) TFT LCD panel for 3LCD projectors.
