Proactive RAID monitoring from your iPhone

As a full-time systems administrator, it's important to me to keep an eye on the servers and hardware I manage. Pages and email alerts in the middle of the night are no fun, so I'm frequently on the lookout for more proactive monitoring tools. Active Storage Inc. just released version 1.1 of their Active Viewer iPhone app, which allows users "to monitor their Active Storage high-performance RAID systems worldwide — directly from their iPhone". I don't use any Active Storage RAID products myself, but this looks like a handy tool for anyone who does.

Storage is cheap, and just keeps getting cheaper. I remember buying my first 250 megabyte hard drive, and paying just under a dollar per meg. Now we're approaching multi-terabyte drives at retail stores for extremely reasonable prices. The age old problem, though, is how to protect all that precious data.
