Ringo Starr is not good at Rock Band. And?
Posted on January 15, 2010 | No CommentsFamous rock star Ringo Star was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night, and he admitted that he's "crap" at Rock Band. This is news only in the loosest sense of the term because the headline should read, "Old man not good at video games."

Music video games, they are dying
Posted on December 19, 2009 | No Comments
The NPD Group is reporting that the sale of music games like DJ Hero, Band Hero, Oboe Hero, and Violin Concerto Band are falling with a bullet, leading analysts to expect the category to crash this year.
The report finds that the Rock Band: The Beatles sold 800,000 units, missing its 1 million forecast and that Guitar Hero 5 sold 500,000 units in its first month of sales, down from 1.4 million for GH3.

Laziness on the move: robot plays Rock Band on the iPhone
Posted on October 31, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Peripherals, Apple
Why confine your nerdy sloth to your living room, where large robots mime fake guitar and serve you sloppy mixed drinks? Take that zest for the sedentary life with you on the road by having one of your robot ninjas steal this iPhone Rock Band robot from its ingenious creator, Joe Bowers. The Arduino-based device uses ambient light sensors to detect the falling notes and then taps out the music with some conductive foam attached to some squeaky fake fingers. Joe did a fairly detailed write-up, and even uploaded his code, so there's presumably nothing stopping you from actually doing something with your life and building one of these with all that free time you've saved up by hacking your way through all the console-based guitar games. Video is after the break.

Seems like just yesterday when we started to get a funny feeling about an official Rock Band for iPhone release. Turns out, our very own Inspector Gadget, one Mr. Kumparak, was spot on with his sleuthing - Rock Band for the iPhone / iPod touch was officially announced by Electronic Arts earlier today.

Now the countdown begins for a possible U2 Rock Band
Posted on October 7, 2009 | No CommentsAt this rate, you and your garage band could be starring in the next Rock Band-like game! (That's actually not a bad idea. Some sort of service wherein you upload your band's songs, and a little while later out pops a file that works in Rock Band and Guitar Hero.) Famous band U2 recently told USA Today that, sure, it would love to be in a video game of its own one day. It's probably too late now, seeing as though, years from now, The Beatles: Rock Band will be viewed as the apex of these music games.

The icing on the cake (pun intended!) is that this life-size delicacy actually sits atop an actual Rock Band drum kit stand. 1 to 10, how excited are you about The Beatles: Rock Band?
Posted on August 13, 2009 | No CommentsHow did we miss this, a nine-page article in the New York Times about The Beatles: Rock Band? Is it overkill? Perhaps. Rock Band isn't exactly new, and The Beatles aren't exactly some unsigned band, but you have to consider the Times' audience: older folks who probably saw The Beatles live at Shea Stadium, and who would be genuinely excited to see the band show up on iTunes one day (despite the fact that ripping their CDs is quite simple).
