Leaked Windows Phone 7 ROM filename suggests an HTC Mondrian?
Posted on May 15, 2010 | No CommentsThe lads and lassies at XDA-Developers made an intriguing discovery this week: a leaked 100MB file that might be the first Windows Phone 7 ROM actually destined for a device. What's more, it could possibly reveal details about a phone we barely knew existed -- the filename references an "HTC Mondrian." At best, the contents might reveal wonders beyond imagination, including full specs, bundled apps, even the tools needed to properly shoehorn WP7 onto your existing HTC handset. At worst, the community might never open the blasted file, or discover it's all a clever hoax. There's really no indication either way, so we prefer to dream. If you think you've got what it takes, try cracking the ROM yourself at our source link.Leaked Windows Phone 7 ROM filename suggests an HTC Mondrian? originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 15 May 2010 14:08:00 EST. New Xbox 360 bundle incoming? Smaller, 250GB HDD, Project Natal built-in.
Posted on April 14, 2010 | No CommentsFull credit to Microsoft: it's still got people paying top-dollar for its nearly five-year-old Xbox 360. It's gonna need to sweeten the deal, though, to keep people a-buyin'. Like, say, a new bundle? Maybe a bundle with a thinner 360 and built-in Project Natal? Sounds about right.

Acer looking to launch super thin laptop with ‘touch keyboard’ this year?
Posted on March 8, 2010 | No Comments
Touchscreen keyboard sentiment can be divided into two camps: those who don’t mind it and those who can’t do without a physical keyboard. If you’re part of the first camp, you may be excited to hear that Acer might just be working on a notebook so thin that it uses a frameless screen and touch keyboard, according to DigiTimes.

Android updates fly off the shelves; Motorola CLIQ up next in March?
Posted on February 10, 2010 | No CommentsAndroid updates appear to be getting thrown left and right recently, so it doesn’t surprise me that the Motorola CLIQ may be due for a tune-up. According to Boy Genius Report, the CLIQ will be getting Android 2.1 OS sometime in March. Perhaps it’s not soon enough for those CLIQ owners who are turning a [...] -
All of Pentax’s PMA offerings revealed, I-10 probably the only interesting one
Posted on January 25, 2010 | No CommentsWell ride with me across the Spanish countryside and call me Sancho Panza: All of Pentax’s Optio cameras have leaked before PMA, revealing very little except a few simple specs for the I-10, H90, and E-90 lines. The I-10, shown here, is very retro with a 5x wide zoom and a 12.1 megapixel sensor. It’s in [...] -

Posted on January 18, 2010 | No Comments
Good old Steve just put up a great graphic detailing all of the possible rumors about whatever the heck Apple is releasing whenever it will release it. Rumors include the "glowing Apple logo" as well as a "touch sensitive case." I think the iSlate will also give worms to ex-girlfriends.

LG Arena GT950 leaks out with AT&T branding
Posted on January 1, 2010 | No CommentsLooks like AT&T is about to get a version of the LG Arena -- these shots of a GT950 with the carrier's branding just hit the tubes. The phone hasn't been officially announced by either AT&T or LG, but the safe bet is that the 950 is just a bespoke variant of the familiar Arena KM900, so look for a three-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen with LG's S-Class UI, a five megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 8GB of storage. We'll have to see whether this hits at CES next week or MWC in February -- but until then you can get a feel for this thing by checking out our KM900 hands-on video right here.LG Arena GT950 leaks out with AT&T branding originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 05:03:00 EST. HTC Espresso’s updated Sense UI shown off on video
Posted on December 27, 2009 | No CommentsWe'd been itching for some video of the mysterious HTC Espresso's updated Sense UI ever since we saw those intriguing screenshots last week, and here we go: a leaked version of the ROM has been hacked onto a Hero and given a run-through. Overall, things seem to be slightly cleaner all around, and that new launcher bar at the bottom looks quite handy, but we're still not totally sold on those translucent app icon surrounds. CES is right around the corner (and MWC is right after that) so we're hoping to find out more soon -- check the video after the break for now.

Apple already locking down dates for iPhone announcement at WWDC 2010?
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No CommentsShocking news, people: Apple might hold WWDC at Moscone West in June, as it has for the past several years. That's at least the word according to AppleInsider, which just noticed that Moscone West is mysteriously booked from June 28 to July 2 by "Corporate Event," which has signified upcoming Apple events in the past. If you'll recall, the original iPhone was released in June of 2007, followed by the iPhone 3G at WWDC 2008 and the iPhone 3GS at WWDC 2009, so the smart money is on another refresh this year -- and you can't have whispers of an iPhone refresh without rumors about it coming to Verizon, so there's tons of chatter in the air. We're staying out of that for now, since we haven't heard anything new or particularly interesting, but we'd like to point out that we're also due an iPhone SDK event in March on Apple's campus if Steve holds to pattern -- anyone care speculate on what iPhone OS 4.0 might bring to the table?Apple already locking down dates for iPhone announcement at WWDC 2010? originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Dec 2009 09:02:00 EST. Verizon begins internal webOS training
Posted on December 16, 2009 | No CommentsWe always knew Palm would be bringing the Pre to Verizon sometime in early 2010, and it looks like preparations are underway: check out this leaked internal training slide, which describes a 20-minute Palm / webOS training that runs until January 4th. Interestingly, that's the day before CES, so we're guessing we'll be hearing something about all this during Palm's CES event -- and if we had to guess, we'd wager that that updated Pixi with WiFi will somehow figure into the mix as well.Verizon begins internal webOS training originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 16 Dec 2009 16:28:00 EST. Google files for Nexus One trademark
Posted on December 15, 2009 | No CommentsThe mystery of the Nexus One continues to grow ever deeper, but we can pretty much confirm Google's planning to sell something under that name: the search giant filed an intent-to-use trademark application for "Nexus One" on December 10th, and in order to be granted the trademark registration it'll have to use the mark in commerce at some point in the future. Now, don't get too carried away -- sure, that could mean free unlocked GSM Android sets for all, but it could also just mean Google's planning to sell the Nexus One as its next-gen Android Developer Phone. Considering everything we've heard points to the device being limited to T-Mobile 3G, we'd say the developer phone theory is still the most likely, but it's all up in the air until Google provides a sample of the Nexus One mark being used in commerce to the USPTO -- or, better yet, announces something official.
Update: Ruh roh. As we're sure you're aware, the "Nexus" name is a riff on Philip K. Dick's Nexus-6 replicants in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and ultimately in Blade Runner -- and his estate is none too pleased that Google's using it without permission. According to the New York Times, Dick's daughter -- who is in charge of licensing his work -- was never told of Google's plans, and she's contacted the lawyers now that she's found out. We're guessing Google can still make nice though: she says she would have been open to an agreement had contact been made earlier. So... let's get on that, guys.
