Sanyo’s new 2K projector boasts industry-high 10,000 lumens brightness
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsIf you thought the Sanyo 3D projector we've shown you a couple of days ago was impressive, think again: today the company announced [JP] the LP-HF1000L, a projector for "professional use" that not only boasts 2K (2,048×1,080) resolution but also produces 10,000 lumens brightness. According to Sanyo, no other projector in the industry can keep up with that number (via AC 100V, at least).

Electric car runs over 1,000 km without recharge, shatters previous record
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No Comments
One of the biggest problems that stands between electric vehicles and becoming mainstream is limited battery life. But there has been some progress in that area lately: the Japan Electric Vehicle Club [JP], a civic group based in Tokyo, announced today a Mira EV customized by the group traveled exactly 1,003.184 kilometers without a recharge.

NTT DoCoMo, KDDI launch their endless Summer 2010 collections
Posted on May 19, 2010 | No CommentsSurprise: Japanese carriers are announcing literally dozens of phones at once. Okay, look, that's not a surprise at all, but bear with us, because there are a few shining jewels in here amongst the seemingly endless array of WVGA displays and one-seg tuners from NTT DoCoMo and KDDI au, both of whom have announced their Summer 2010 collections of handsets this week. Of note, two of the models from DoCoMo -- the Fujitsu F-06B and Sharp SH-07B are capable of shooting 1080p video, while KDDI's SH008 from Sharp, S003 from Sony Ericsson, and CA005 from Casio all feature sensors of 12 megapixels or larger. Several of the devices can also be used as WiFi hotspots, and Hitachi's trick Beskey for KDDI has interchangeable keypads that change the shape of the keys, not the layout -- a bit superficial, perhaps, but we're all about choice. DoCoMo is also launching a handful of smartphones: the Lynx SH-10B from Sharp (not to be confused with the old Atari handheld of the same name) that features Android atop a 5-inch touchscreen, Toshiba's 4.1-inch T-01B Dynapocket with WinMo, and RIM's plain old BlackBerry Bold 9700. Don't get us wrong, it's still quite a haul, but we can't help but feel that the gap between Japan's wireless scene and the rest of the world is closing fast.NTT DoCoMo, KDDI launch their endless Summer 2010 collections originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 19 May 2010 00:27:00 EST. Guinness World Record: Sanyo battery lets e-car travel 555.6 km without recharging
Posted on April 21, 2010 | No Comments
One of the biggest obstacles that prevents electric cars and other vehicles from becoming mainstream is the insufficient battery life. In most cases, potential buyers of those green vehicles are scared off by the fact that there still aren't enough charging stations out there or that the travel distance (on a single charge) is just too short.
But many companies are working on the battery problem, and one of them apparently is Sanyo. Today the company issued a press release in which it claims one of its lithium-ion battery "systems" helped an electric vehicle to drive exactly 555.6km (345 miles) from Tokyo to Osaka - on a single charge. The car in question is a special version of the Daihatsu Mira (whose non-electric original is widely considered to be "green", too).

Panasonic ready to pump $1.1 billion into solar energy business
Posted on January 13, 2010 | No CommentsThere's a reason why Panasonic paid $4.4 billion in this economic downturn to acquire former rival Sanyo, and the reason is that Panasonic wants to go as "green" as possible in the future. Sanyo isn't only the world's leading maker of lithium ion batteries, but also the (now former) company behind the eneloop brand, which consists of a range of eco-friendly solar products. But buying Sanyo wasn't enough for Panasonic's solar ambitions, as the company says it's now ready to invest another $1.1 billion by fiscal 2015 in its solar business segment. By that time, Panasonic aims at being among the world's top three solar cell makers. The company wants to reach the top spot among Japanese makers as early as 2012.

The company says the devices are the first to be completely mercury-free. Casio also claims their so-called GREEN SLIM projectors are the world’s first devices of their kind that are bright enough to be used in a well lit room - without using a mercury lamp.

eneloop music booster: Sanyo’s battery charger for music devices
Posted on December 28, 2009 | No Comments
Even though it's now a Panasonic subsidiary, Sanyo lives on as its own brand. And one of the major reasons Panasonic bought the company is its "green" image, mainly achieved through selling products under the "eneloop" sub-brand. The latest of these products, the so-called eneloop music booster, was announced today. It's a rechargeable DC 9V battery unit specifically designed for music devices.
