First iPhone 4 units being delivered
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No CommentsAw, suki suki now! Looks like we've got our first iPhone 4 delivery here in the US, a full 24 hours before the first batch is supposed to land. The best news isn't that throngs of pre-orderers are seeing their units "out for delivery" today, but that this Mac Rumors user was able to activate his unit already in seamless fashion. 'Course, we highly doubt it'll be so easy for everyone else crashing the servers tomorrow and Thursday, but there it is. So, anyone else seeing their iPhone 4 marked as "out for delivery?" Or better still, "in hand?" Give us a shout in comments below.
[Thanks, Anonymous]
Update: We've moved the FedEx image past the break, as one lucky Mac Rumors member already has his in hand. And so it begins. [Thanks, Adam]
Update 2: A reader has sent us over the above picture of his own brand new iPhone 4, which has only just arrived. [Thanks, Mark!]Continue reading First iPhone 4 units being delivered

iPhone 4 pre-orders now shipping
Posted on June 20, 2010 | No CommentsWe're still trying to puzzle out the mystery of why some iPhone 4 pre-orders have been randomly canceled, but there's good news for the rest of the 600,000 people who managed to get past Apple's ordering issues last week: the newest iPhone is now shipping. We haven't gotten our ship notification email yet, but judging from our tip jar plenty of other people have -- we'll see if anyone's lucky enough to score an early delivery.

Qualcomm ships first dual-core Snapdragon chipsets clocking 1.2GHz
Posted on June 1, 2010 | No CommentsOh yeah baby, Qualcomm's finally shipping its first dual-core Snapdragons. To whom, is the big question. Its third-generation Mobile Station Modem MSM8260 and MSM8660 Snapdragon chipsets for high-end smartphones -- originally announced in February 2009 -- are now sampling and capable of running at up to 1.2GHz. The MSM8260 supports HSPA+, while the MSM8660 brings support for multi-mode HSPA+ and 1xEV-DO Rev. B. Both integrate GPS, a GPU with 2D / 3D acceleration engines for Open GL ES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1, 1080p video encoding and decoding, a dedicated low-power audio engine, and support for 24-bit WXGA 1,280 x 800 pixel displays. Anybody at Computex care to step forward with a reference design?
Update: We just spoke with company representatives here at the show, and try as we may, we couldn't convince anyone at the company to show off a dual-core reference design. We were flat-out told that the only people at Computex getting a glimpse at the new silicon were prospective customers, though we did manage to pry out a few interesting details about the chip itself and the future of the line. For one, these new chips have two application cores and a single modem core, whereas existing chips have a single application core alongside a single modem core. We were also told in no uncertain terms that an even quicker version of the Snapdragon would be launched before the year's end, and as you'd likely surmise, it'll be aimed at "larger screen" devices -- you know, like slates and tablet PCs.

Huzzah! The iPad 3G is “prepped to ship”
Posted on April 28, 2010 | No CommentsYou know news is tight when the words “Prepped for shipping” warrant their own post. However, the iPads 3G are now “prepped for shipping” which means they should be winging their way to the US in the next few days, just in time for the April 30th cut-off date. How excited are you about your iPad [...] -
PSA: Double check your ‘guaranteed Christmas delivery’ online orders
Posted on December 22, 2009 | No Comments
A tale of holiday woe for your enjoyment. I just logged into my BestBuy.com account to make sure that the gift I ordered for someone on my list would indeed arrive by Christmas. It will not. Could be Best Buy’s fault, could be UPS’ fault – either way, the train went off the tracks.

Nokia N97 Mini now shipping to American lovers, haters
Posted on December 2, 2009 | No Comments
The miniaturized version of Nokia's N97 began shipping to eager consumers in Europe in late October, but for those unable to save their pennies in America while waiting for the N900, today's the day to unload. As of right now, the (obviously unlocked) N97 Mini is shipping from both Dell and Amazon here in the States, with the former offering it for $430 (after coupon) and the latter selling it for $479.99. Any takers? Or has the full-sized N97 already claimed that piece of your heart?Nokia N97 Mini now shipping to American lovers, haters originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 02 Dec 2009 21:59:00 EST. Nokia X6 Comes with Music and capacitive touchscreen: shipping now
Posted on November 26, 2009 | No CommentsWhat are you thankful for today? If you live in Finland or the UK and pre-ordered a X6 then you might be obliged to Nokia for having just set your new handset free. That's right pilgrims, Nokia's new flagship Comes with Music handset is now shipping. The X6 you'll recall, introduces S60 5th to a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen riding 32GB of storage, a 5 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, TV-out, and tweaked homescreen with a media/social-centric layout. The X6 lists for €450 (pre-tax and pre-carrier subsidies) -- a price that ultimately includes the cost of Nokia's struggling "all-you-can-eat" music service. Perhaps this is the device that finally gives the service legs? Maybe, but we'd start by following through on plans to strip the DRM.Nokia X6 Comes with Music and capacitive touchscreen: shipping now originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 26 Nov 2009 08:05:00 EST. AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold 9700 starts shipping out to top bananas
Posted on November 17, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, RIM, ATT, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, BlackBerry OS
Got an AT&T Premier account at your disposal? Does your nine to five require you to wear a suit on every day that ends in "y?" If you're nodding your head and simultaneously thinking about just how tight that top button is around your neck, there's a decent chance that you can get AT&T's version of the BlackBerry Bold 9700 right now. 'Course, those on T-Mobile have already been enjoying the spoils for a few hours now, but judging by the unboxing shots in the read link, that window of US exclusivity looks to be all but shut. So, anyone jabbing the boss for an upgrade?AT&T's BlackBerry Bold 9700 starts shipping out to top bananas originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 15:18:00 EST. Nokia N900 is now shipping!
Posted on November 10, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Nokia, Linux
var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Nokia_s_Maemo_powered_N900_is_now_shipping'; Nokia's Maemo-based future has begun: the N900 is shipping. According to Nokia CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, the eagerly awaited handset is now en route to at least some pre-order customers. We'll soon see if this new generation of Nokia smartphones will be enough to generate the type of mass-market / high-margin appeal that Nokia needs at the top end of its product portfolio or if it's just a tentative first step on a potentially wobbly new platform.
Update: Nokia's official blog says to expect the Maemo 5 device to land in "Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America" shortly. However, it won't be compatible with the new 3G SIM cards from 3 in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria until a software update hits sometime later this year.

Rejoice! BlackBerry support arrives on Celio REDFLY
Posted on November 3, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Peripherals, RIM, BlackBerry OS
We heard it'd be here in mid-Q4, and sure enough, it's here. And by "it," we mean "BlackBerry support for Celio's largely unwanted REDFLY Mobile Companion." Starting today, those looking for the Foleo's long lost cousin can snap up a REDFLY and download a free driver that adds compatibility for RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9000, Curve 8900 and Tour 9630. Granted, it's not like the BlackBerry web browser will be any less painful to use on an enlarged screen, but hey, whatever suits your fancy.

Nokia’s N97 mini gets its shipping papers
Posted on October 28, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Nokia, Symbian, GSM, EDGE
Right on cue, the smaller-but-just-barely N97 mini is now ready for public consumption over in Europe. Granted, we're certainly at the tail end of October, but we can't say that we caught Nokia in a lie or anything based on what was said last month in Stuttgart. You've already committed the specifications to memory and read all about firmware 2.0, so now all that's left to do is run along, fork out €450 ($667) and wonder forever if this decision will positively or negatively change the course of your life.Nokia's N97 mini gets its shipping papers originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 28 Oct 2009 14:31:00 EST.
