Telefonica gets behind MeeGo, says ’smartphones, netbooks, tablets, and internet connected TVs’ are possibilities
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No Comments
Virtually all of the MeeGo buzz since Intel and Nokia's tie-up back in February has been focused on high-end smartphones, tablets, and netbooks, but Telefonica reminds us that there's another potential target for the platform, too -- connected TVs. The Spanish wireless, fixed internet, and cable operator has thrown its weight behind MeeGo this week (which is a pretty big deal considering that the company has global reach across 25 countries and about a quarter billion subscribers), hinting that "services could potentially include content and applications that can be accessed from devices such as smartphones, netbooks, tablets, and internet connected TVs for Telefonica's wireline and wireless operations." We've yet to see any set-top box announcements in the MeeGo space, but with Google trying to light fires under the connected TV market, we imagine some competitors are bound to emerge -- and it's probably a good sign that they've got the backing of a cable company.Telefonica gets behind MeeGo, says 'smartphones, netbooks, tablets, and internet connected TVs' are possibilities originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 02 Jun 2010 16:58:00 EST. It starts: Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas complains about Adidas Jabulani ball ahead of World Cup
Posted on May 29, 2010 | 1 CommentRight on cue, then. 'Twas only a few days ago that I had mentioned the grand tradition of World Cup goalkeepers complaining about the ball used in the tournament, and we now have our very first complaints (at least I think it's the first). Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who's probably the best goalkeeper going into the tournament (it's either him or Júlio César, of Brazil), said after Spain's 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia in a pre-tournament friendly about an hour ago: "It's a little sad that in a competition as big as the World Cup to have such a poor ball [the Jabulani]. It's not just the goalkeepers complaining, but the outfield players as well." Here we go~!

Recycling may save, but trash can power your home
Posted on February 23, 2010 | No CommentsIf you live in Spain that is. GeeksPhone One now available for pre-order, launching in Spain this December
Posted on October 21, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Others, Android
Apparently not pushed back until January, GeeksPhone's Android-imbued smartphone, the One, is launching in Spain this December, recently-added physical keyboard and all. So far, the limited edition run will not be crossing Spanish borders on its own, but we doubt that'll stop any interested parties on foreign land. Final price will be 285 euro (US $427), 22 of which is all you need to put down to reserve yours today.

And it's out. The BlackBerry Storm2 just made its first official carrier appearance with Vodafone. The promising followup to the much maligned BlackBerry Storm will be free on pay-monthly contracts from £35 on up. Specs include a 3.25-inch 360 x 480 pixel capacitive SurePress (new and improved) touchscreen display, 802.11b/g WiFi and 2100MHz UMTS/HSPA data, 256MB of flash memory (double that of the original Storm), 2GB of onboard memory with microSDHC expansion, 3.5-mm standard headset jack, 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording, built-in GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, and 1400mAh battery giving about 6 hours of 3G talk. BlackBerry OS 5 too, of course, when it lands on October 15th in the UK, Ireland, Germany, The Netherlands, and Spain -- France, Italy, and South Africa in time for Christmas.
Update: Now on official RIM page too with a detailed comparison against the original Storm.
[Thanks, James]
