Hands-on with Creative’s ZiiSound D5 and D200 Bluetooth speakers
Posted on June 17, 2010 | No CommentsI’ve been following Creative for so long I feel like they’re old friends to me. I’ve been impressed over the years with their MP3 player line but they, like so many audio manufacturers, have seen the writing on the wall and the future isn’t in making the MP3 players – it’s in making the stuff [...] -

Kyoto-based Murata has developed the world's first piezoelectric speaker that not only is waterproof but also ultra-thin (0.9mm). The devices are meant to be mainly used with mobile phones, which makes sense, given that almost 25% of the 50 latest cell phones released (on the Japanese market, at least) are actually waterproof.

Review: Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Wireless Speaker System
Posted on February 10, 2010 | No CommentsThe Short Version: You’ll be hard pressed to find a higher fidelity desktop audio rig than this. AQ Amigo USB speaker sits comfortably atop your notebook screen
Posted on December 9, 2009 | No Comments
Notebook speakers are generally the definition of suck. They tend to be flat, lifeless, and just plan bad, but then portable speaker sets aren't exactly portable. The USB-powered AQ Amigo seems to be a nice solution though.

Soundmatters’ foxL v2 portable Bluetooth speaker rocks the suburbs
Posted on December 1, 2009 | No CommentsSoundmatters made a few (sine) waves last year with the introduction of its awfully cute foxL Bluetooth speaker, but for those preoccupied with other matters, there's nothing wrong with snagging v2 in order to catch up. The pocket-sized (5.6- x 2.2- x 1.4-inches) speaker sports new BT circuitry that allows for 3x better reception than the prior version, and it also automatically pairs and searches for Bluetooth devices. Users can now answer and terminate a call from the speaker itself, and as expected, you'll also get a bit more volume out of this one compared to the original. The rechargeable battery will keep the jams spinning for five hours on a full charge, and if the international charging prongs weren't enough, there's also the option to regenerate over USB. It's set to ship later this month to jet-setting music junkies for $199, while a wired (read: non-BT) variant will go for $30 less.Soundmatters' foxL v2 portable Bluetooth speaker rocks the suburbs originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 01 Dec 2009 11:08:00 EST. The Serio speakers from Waterfall Audio are stunning (and expensive)
Posted on November 20, 2009 | No Comments
I've never heard of Waterfall Audio before. I think they qualify for one of my rules in the audio world though: if you've never heard of an audio company and they cost more than products from a familiar brand, it's probably good stuff. Apparently the company made a name for itself a few years ago with a glass-enclosed speaker line. Who knew.
The latest speaker line, Serio, keeps the glass theme alive, but manages to shrink the package down to a satellite-style size. Too bad all that glass and square lines scream the '90s.

Altec Lansing announces Rock Band speakers
Posted on October 21, 2009 | No Comments
Why be a video game rockstar if you can't hear it? Have you always wanted to put your foot on something while you power chord-ed your way to stardom? For those of you who are using the stock speakers in your TV to play Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or Harmonica Hero, first off, shame on you.
Logitech promises that “Your built-in speakers just can’t compete with the stereo sound from this lightweight, portable speaker.” Whether or not that’s true will be up to you to decide, I suppose, but the single-cable operation of the “Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205” that’s “tiny enough to toss in your bag” may appeal to those of you looking for a bit more oomph.
