Posted on April 7, 2010 | No Comments
Doesn't it seem like 2.5-inch hard drives have been stuck at 500GB for a while? Well, Samsung is the latest to announce its next-gen hard drive platform and while it doesn't have the same 750GB capacity as WD's latest 5400 RPM drive, we'll take the Sammy's 7200 RPM speed with a little less storage any day.

Western Digital is now shipping the Scorpio Blue 750GB 2.5-inch hard drive directly to our hearts
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No Comments
Western Digital here,
While other companies are just announcing their large 2.5-inch drives, we've started shipping ours and wanted to thank everyone involved with the industry-leading Scorpio Blue 750GB 2.5-inch hard drive: the engineers for crafting the drive, the bean counters for pricing it well at $149, but most importantly, you, the consumer. It was you that pushed us to stuff even more storage capacity in the small 2.5-inch form factor and demanded a quiet and battery-efficient drive. Thank you.

AirStash: Wireless portable storage
Posted on March 16, 2010 | No CommentsIf you’re like me, you thought the AirStash was a mustache that floats in the air, like those seed things in Avatar, only not glowy. But the AirStash is actually a USB key with built-in SD card slot that can, in a few seconds, create a private hotspot that allows you to share the media [...] -
SSD Roundup: the drive to succeed
Posted on March 4, 2010 | No Comments
I got up this morning and started thinking about the next thing I wanted to add to my PC. Like many of you, I'm into upgrading when I see fit to increase performance, and I think that putting Windows 7 on an SSD might be the way to go. So, like many of you, I decided to look at some of the most recent reviews and see what looked interesting from the price/performance standpoint.

Corsair unleashes the Force SSD line
Posted on March 4, 2010 | No Comments
Forget about the just-announced Corsair Reactor and Nova SSDs because you're not going to want those after you hear about the upcoming Force models. This new line forgos the Indilinx Bareboot controller for the faster SandForce SD-1200 processor, which enables the Force line to read at 285MB/s and write at 275MB/s. Yeah, that's quick. Trim support is also present on the SATA II drives as long as you're running a Trim-friendly OS like Windows 7. Don't expect all this SSD goodness to be affordable, though.

GameStop selling 250GB Xbox 360 drive
Posted on March 2, 2010 | No Comments
Well lookie at that, GameStop is selling a 250GB Xbox 360 drive separately from a console. Microsoft has said in the past that they don't plan on selling the larger drives without a bundle, so I doubt these are a new or official product, but rather GameStop coming up with something on their own.

Lexar announces new line of “Gamer” SDHC cards
Posted on November 19, 2009 | No Comments
Lexar announced their new "gaming" memory cards today. I"m curious what exactly makes these cards specifically for gamers? Do they drink Mountain Dew? Do they call other memory cards 'Bro' while giving them dead leg?
Other then labeling, I'm not sure what else makes these gamer level memory cards special.

USB drives keep getting smaller and smaller. For your viewing pleasure: the Wink. Advertised as the world's smallest USB drive, it really is quite diminutive.
It's ideal for attaching to a keychain or necklace, or smuggling out of a secure data facility inon your body. -
World’s smallest NAS: the Thecus N0204
Posted on November 16, 2009 | No Comments
So this is kind of cool. It's a NAS that uses 2.5" hard drives, making for a much smaller form factor. In fact, it's about the size of a standard USB hard drive enclosure.
The best part? The price. The Thecus N0204 retails for just $150; you'll have to provide your own drives, though.

Convergence! Fancy lighter packs an 8GB USB drive, costs $35
Posted on October 30, 2009 | No Comments
If you're dedicated to smoking or camping (or smoking while camping), then there’s a good chance you've purchased a nice refillable metal lighter in the past. But the past is the past and sooner or later you’ll need to step into the future (which, coincidentally, will almost immediately become the past). Whatever happens, please take with you the knowledge that there exists a refillable metal lighter that doubles as an 8GB flash drive.
