Apple Store app arrives in Apple App Store
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No CommentsThis is one of those things that makes you wonder why it hadn't been done already. Apple's just unleashed an Apple Store application for its iDevices designed to pretty much give you the online Apple Store experience -- but perhaps without the crazy on-again, off-again antics of this morning. All that's required is a device with iOS version 3 or above, and you'll be able to read reviews, locate local brick and mortar Stores, check out new and featured products, and -- importantly -- buy or pre-order the latest goodies Steve and co have bestowed upon these lands. Alas, we tried to do just that with the iPhone 4 and were met with the familiar "we'll be back soon" message. So the app might work, but Apple's store is still struggling.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
P.S. - The app looks to be US-only for now. Sorry world, Apple doesn't love you enough.Continue reading Apple Store app arrives in Apple App Store

Active releases a new set of SSDs
Posted on March 8, 2010 | No Comments
Solid state hard drives are increasing in popularity mainly because more are reaching the consumer market, therefore driving down prices. But most are still a bit pricey. Active has a new 1.8-inch set, however, that's a bit more affordable if you don't mind forgoing storage capacity.

Entourage announces e-book store for eDGe dualbook
Posted on November 18, 2009 | No Comments
The Entourage eDGe, the world's first "dualbook" is a dual-screen laptop / e-book reader hybrid thingie. The laptop portion is pretty straightforward, but what about the e-book? In the already crowded e-book space, how can the eDGe compete? Well, today they've announced they're very own e-book store. That's right, a device that is not yet in anyone's hands now has its own bookstore. All sarcasm aside, this is a pretty good move to demonstrate the long-term commitment from Entourage to the eDGe, even if it is yet another e-book store (okay, so maybe it wasn't all sarcasm aside). Read on for the whole press release.

Windows Marketplace’s newest anti-piracy measures already thwarted
Posted on November 12, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Software, Windows Mobile
Yar, that was fast. Less than a day after Microsoft updated its Windows Marketplace for Mobile with new advanced anti-piracy measure, some apt xda-developers community member has managed to crack the new code -- in under two hours, according to Chainfire's posting. The hack itself won't be posted, but we're sure other astute programmers, many of more nefarious intention, will be able to have their way with it just as easy. Sad for developers who've been wanting something more secure -- better luck next update.

Windows Marketplace for Mobile updates tackle piracy, adds online store for non-mobile browsers
Posted on November 12, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Software, Windows Mobile
Windows Mobile 6.5 users rejoice, you now have a better marketplace experience your way. Microsoft's added a couple updates to its mobile app store. On the developers' side of things there's a new portal for submission, and "more advanced anti-piracy protection" -- no clue if it solves those DRM issues we heard about before, but sounds at least like a step in the right direction. For the consumers, there's now an online store that you can use from your certainly superior desktop / laptop browser. In the vein of Xbox Live Marketplace's online portal at Xbox.com, purchased apps from the browser will be sent to the connected phone next time you open up the Windows Marketplace client... what's that? You want support for Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1? Microsoft reassures us it's coming later this month, so hang tight, okay?
