That's what Microsoft and News Corp. execs are currently contemplating, with the two companies in talks over bringing a "young, male" channel to XBL. Now, this is all rumor and speculation, so no need to freak out if you're diametrically opposed to the idea.

For some strange reason, the contrast race seems to be on. TV's seem to getting higher and high contrast ratio, but LG was claiming a 1,000,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and now BenQ is claiming a 12,000,000:1.

FLO TV adds On-demand, time shifting
Posted on April 13, 2010 | No Comments
When Qualcomm's FLO TV came out last November, it seemed alright. A bit expensive for the initial investment, but a reasonable device if you didn't want to stream media over your smartphone. Well, Qualcomm is making the FLO TV a little better with their latest update, due 2Q2010.

Conan gets a show on TBS
Posted on April 12, 2010 | No CommentsI should probably mention that Conan O'Brien has a show on TBS now. I know it's not necessarily related to the latest graphics card, or to the kin 1 or kin 2, but we did spend an awful lot of time talking about the whole "I'm With Coco" movement. Sure would be silly to leave the story hanging, right?

Sorry, China’s 3D TVs are no less expensive
Posted on April 2, 2010 | No CommentsIncoming, Chinese 3D TVs! A couple of Chinese manufacturers have announced details of their very own 3D TVs. There's really nothing too crazy, so I don't even know why I'm mentioning it. Oh, yes: trying to avoid talking about that... thing.

Nobody wants the NBCU-Comcast merger to go down
Posted on April 1, 2010 | No CommentsLooks like nobody in the TV industry wants the NBCU-Comcast merger to go down. And who could blame them! ABC, CBS, and Fox affiliates are afraid that, if the merger goes down, it'll cause the clouds to darken and the streets to run red with the blood of something or other. Basically, they're scared that the merger will put the in a very bad position indeed.

Create your own view of the world with the WindowWall
Posted on March 25, 2010 | No Comments
I love the show Leverage. Partly because it's filmed in my home town of Portland Oregon, and partly because of the high tech gadgets that they use. For example, the briefing sequences use a wall of LCD TVs. The each TV can show an individual shot, or can be combined into one massive display, which just looks like fun to me. Well, you can buy your own, better version, with the WindowWall.

Sold out! Panasonic’s 3D TVs simply cannot be found in stores!
Posted on March 17, 2010 | No CommentsWell, well! Every single Panasonic 3D TV has been sold, meaning, I guess, that 3D TV is a hit, despite what some people think. They're on back order now, so if you weren't among the first to plop down nearly $3,000 for a 50-inch set you get a late slip. You're late to the party. Last week called, and it wants to know why you didn't buy a TV?

Posted on March 11, 2010 | No CommentsA little update on Conan O'Brien, seeing as though we spent a couple of days there talking about his every move. The man is taking his show on the road, bringing the funny to a city near you in the coming weeks! It's the called "The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour," and I'm sure it'll be wonderful.

Cablevision subscribers: You do know that broadcast TV, like WABC, is totally free, right? You just need an indoor antenna.
Posted on March 8, 2010 | No CommentsThanks to some last-minute heroics, Cablevision customers here in the Northeast were able to watch the Oscars last night, which aired on WABC, the local ABC affiliate. Cynics have suggested that's because WABC wasn't prepared, no matter how cavalier its previous rhetoric, to give up the night's ratings (and ad dollars) because it wanted to eek out a few more pennies from Cablevision. (WABC had wanted extra money from Cablevision per subscriber, sorta like that Fox-Time Warner Cable feud from a few weeks ago.) But until both sides came to an agreement, people were freaking out: how are we going to watch the Oscars?! Will it be on YouTube? Hulu? BitTorrent? Newsflash, citizens: a simple, indoor ATSC antenna is all you need to watch WABC (and other broadcast channels), provided you live within range of the broadcast tower.
