The company's longtime TV partner, SpikeTV, launched ultimatefighter.com earlier today, a place where mixed martial arts fans can watch the entire Ultimate Fighter library online. For free. Let that sink in—still think Dana White hates the Internet? In addition to serving up all 231 fights in the show's history, fans can also interact with each other on social networking services like Twitterand Facebook. Not a bad job, really.

What is in dispute today is just how representative Twitter is of The Real World. Case in point: TNA Wrestling made its long awaited move to Monday nights this week, and all throughout the night "TNA" was a trending topic on Twitter. We've been led to believe that anything that trends on Twitter is hugely important, not merely in the cozy confines of the Twitterverse, but all over Planet Earth. Explain this, then: the show only drew a 0.98 rating (it rounds up to a 1.0). I thought Twitter = ratings?

TwitCasting lets you stream live video and tweet simultaneously from your iPhone

Late last year, Ustream and qik launched iPhone applications that let you stream videos from the iPhone to the web and allow others to watch them as they're being recorded. And now there is an iPhone app called TwitCasting Live (iTunes link), which offers the same basic functionality, but is - as the name suggests - much deeper integrated into Twitter.
The free app is essentially a live streaming app and Twitter client rolled into one. TwitCasting Live splits the iPhone screen in half, allowing you to view your Twitter timeline, update your status, access the web etc. on the bottom half, while recording (broadcasting) video on the top.

Twitter controversy mars Shorty Awards ceremony

The awards, if you've never heard of them before, are handed out to Twitter users who exemplify Twitter's potential "to create the best real-time short form content." It's sorta cute I guess, just recognizing people who tweet interesting things. There's one problem, and it has to do with the award handed out in the "Weird" category.

It's a follow-up to last month's Super Bowl Halftime Show Twitter Party, which was pretty much a gigantic success. What's being celebrated this time around? The Oscars (gi gi gi)! It gets even better: a live radio show will actually accompany the Twitter party. I'm excited.

Waterloo University, a fine institution of higher learning, in Canada, has found that 30 percent of incoming freshman cannot pass a "simple" English test. New communication methods, primarily Twitter, texting, and social networking sites like Facebook, are to blame. To quote a classic line from The Simpsons, "Me fail English? That's unpossible."
