Vodafone UK details iPhone 4 plans a little early, we keep the screenshots
Posted on June 14, 2010 | No CommentsWe don't know what shenanigans are going on over in Vodafone HQ, but the UK carrier gave the world a quick glimpse of its iPhone 4 pricing today, before promptly removing the data sheets from the ether. Thankfully, a fast-witted reader by the name of Liam Gladdy captured the incriminating data for us, and we can now sit and ruminate on what Voda has in store. As you might surmise from above, the vast majority of users won't be getting the handset for free, though that doesn't necessarily preclude the contracts from representing good value. We note with glee that Vodafone keeps its data limit at a robust 1GB, unlike a certain other network, and the £30 ($44) a month two-year contract is looking decent from where we're sitting. Prices over 18 months just jump by £5 in monthly outlay with handset costs remaining the same. Click past the break for the full breakdown, including details for the 32GB variety.Continue reading Vodafone UK details iPhone 4 plans a little early, we keep the screenshots

Samsung Galaxy S taking UK pre-orders, Vodafone promises June 15 delivery
Posted on June 11, 2010 | No CommentsWere you looking forward to purchasing a 16GB smartphone with unique screen technology and an app-centric OS this month? Great, because the Galaxy S pre-order has now gone live in the UK, offering a delivery only four days away from now and prices that are pretty much par for the superphone course. If you want the Super AMOLED machine for free, minimum monthly cost will be steep, starting out at £35 ($51) a pop over 24 months or £40 ($58) over 18 lunar cycles. Both those deals furnish you with 900 minutes of talk time, unlimited texts, and 1GB of 3G data, but the latter works out to be the better value as it tallies up to £720 ($1,045) in total investment over the full term. Then again, most of what Vodafone has on tap compares favorably to the madness O2 is asking iPhone 4 buyers to pony up.Samsung Galaxy S taking UK pre-orders, Vodafone promises June 15 delivery originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 02:05:00 EST. Vodafone’s R201 mobile router has OLED display, microSD sharing
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No CommentsNovatel's MiFi line has set a standard for the way mobile 3G routers are expected to look and work, but let's be honest -- there's always room for improvement. We've been tipped today with word of Vodafone's R201 model sourced from Huawei, a device we've previously seen in the FCC with support for full HSPA. It'll handle up to five users at once -- pretty standard for these kinds of devices -- and feature an Overdrive-like OLED display up top and charging / tethering via micro-USB. That's not the neat part, though: it's said that the R201 will be the first mobile router to feature a microSD slot that can be shared among connected devices, effectively turning the whole setup into a micro-NAS. What say you, Novatel -- time for a MiFi 2?

iPhone 4 confirms June 24 date with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone in UK
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No CommentsGood news for non-America: O2 UK has become the first international carrier to confirm it'll have the iPhone 4 ready for purchase and adoration on launch day, June 24. After the iPad gave preferential treatment to the US with its release schedule, some might have feared the similarly hot piece of tech Apple just announced today will also suffer from a tiered launch. It's looking like Brits won't have to worry about that particular pain, but it's also curious that Vodafone and Orange -- the other local carriers of the iPhone -- are remaining mum tonight. Is Apple lending a hand to its old partner by allowing it early stock? That wouldn't be entirely unfathomable, though it would be pretty unpleasant for impatient types who fancy some carrier choice.
Update: Never mind that whole conspiracy theory: we've just seen that Orange is also throwing its hat into the June 24 ring -- let's keep this momentum going, guys! [Thanks, Blizzard]
Update 2: And now Tech Radar has heard direct from Vodafone that June 24 is a go, giving us a complete Brit pack.
Update 3: Hey, what do you know? T-Mobile UK's getting it too. Choice is good.Continue reading iPhone 4 confirms June 24 date with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone in UK

Samsung i8330 ‘H2′ for Vodafone leaked?
Posted on May 27, 2010 | No CommentsAt the time of its release late last year, Samsung's H1 for Vodafone's then-new 360 service represented some of the sweetest featurephone hardware that money could buy, thanks to a 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen, WiFi, 5 megapixel autofocus cam, and 16GB of onboard storage. Those are still killer specs, but it's always onward and upward with these guys -- so we're not surprised to see rumors of an H2 model surface. Like the H1, this new handset (apparently with internal model number i8330) is said to run LiMo (release 3 this time) and packs an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and HD video capture, 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, and a WVGA Super AMOLED display. Super AMOLED sounds like a gimmick until you actually see a display in the flesh, then you realize that it's the real deal, so this phone could make some waves; it's tapped for launch before World Cup soccer starts next month, so we could see an announcement any minute now.Samsung i8330 'H2' for Vodafone leaked? originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 27 May 2010 14:31:00 EST. Samsung Galaxy S and Wave ‘coming soon’ to Vodafone UK
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsPerhaps eager to steal some of the thunder from Everything Everywhere's recent debut, Vodafone has updated its Coming Soon page to show a selection of new handsets, which is highlighted by Samsung's pair of Super AMOLED beasts, the Wave and Galaxy S. The Wave brings the new Bada sensibility to British shores, while the Galaxy S will be pretty much the most advanced Android handset the UK has yet seen. It runs version 2.1 with Samsung's own skin on top, but it's the hardware behind it that'll be pushing Brits to upgrade. Hit the source link to peruse the full list, which also includes the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G, but do remember to be patient -- an Amazon pre-order listing for the Wave (priced at £350, or 521 greenbacks) indicates a one to three month waiting period.Samsung Galaxy S and Wave 'coming soon' to Vodafone UK originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 13 May 2010 06:18:00 EST. iPhone and Vodafone UK set the date: January 14
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No CommentsVodafone has decided if it can't give us the iPhone for the holidays, it'll do the next best thing and spill details of its launch and pricing of Apple's finest. Available from January 14, the iPhone will be yours for £30 ($48) per month on two-year contracts, though up-front charges will set you back £239 ($386) for the 32GB 3GS variety. A monthly 1GB of 3G data is permitted, alongside unlimited WiFi, but what might be most interesting here is that Vodafone will allow you to use the iPhone as a modem. Such use will not be covered by your allowance of course, and will cost £5 ($8) for each 500MB downloaded, but we're happy to see a carrier offering the option. Furthermore, though Vodafone's agreement to carry the iPhone seemed a rushed defensive move, the company now claims it has been preparing its network for over a year to handle the increased traffic it expects.iPhone and Vodafone UK set the date: January 14 originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Dec 2009 06:03:00 EST. Nokia N900 coming to Vodafone UK in January 2010
Posted on December 15, 2009 | No CommentsQuick and dirty bit of news for you lovely subjects of the United Kingdom and independent spirits of Ireland: Vodafone's online store is showing the much hailed N900 as an option, with handsets expected at some point next month. The Irish arm of the carrier had already admitted it'll be offering the device, and we foresee the two launching the handset simultaneously early in the new year, with regrettably little competition from the other UK carriers. As Electric Pig reported when the N900 first started shipping, only O2 replied with a "not yet," while Orange and T-Mobile were presumably too busy making out to respond.

Vodafone confirms they’ll carry the Nokia N900 “soon”
Posted on December 14, 2009 | No Comments
Good news, everyone! Well, everyone in the UK. Er, everyone in the UK who wants an N900.
Vodafone has just officially confirmed by way of press release that they will be carrying the Nokia N900 "soon". They didn't throw in any specific dates, nor did they think to mention pricing - but one way or another, it's coming.

Vodafone reportedly ditching the HD2 as iPhone launch looms (update: nope!)
Posted on December 10, 2009 | No Comments
Here's an interesting one. Vodafone, which is one of the few carriers in the world right now with access to HTC's HD2, is reportedly not going to stock the handset any longer once its current supply evaporates. The reason? Why, that's a fantastic question! According to a company spokesperson, there has been a "massive amount of interest" in the big-screen mobile, with initial stock "selling out quickly and subsequent deliveries used to fulfill backorders." Call us crazy, but it seems a wee bit foolish to can a product that's selling well -- unless, of course, Voda has a certain amount of iPhones that it'll be required to sell just a few months from now (or else buy 'em itself). Whatever the case, we're told that the operator "will not [be] re-stocking the HTC HD2 for general consumer sales once current stock runs out," so if you're jonesing for one, ten minutes ago would've been a great time to buy.
Update: Here's the latest from Vodafone: "We haven't recalled or stopped selling it, at the moment we have simply ran out of stock. When our next batch of stock arrives, this will be used to fulfill our outstanding back orders but we won't be taking any additional orders via Telesales."
Update 2: HTC pinged us directly and apologized for being unclear. Here's the bottom line: "[The] HD2 will continue to be available on Vodafone, even after the iPhone launches."

Posted on October 23, 2009 | No Commentsvar digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/1812_overture_played_by_1000_cellphones_2000_text_alerts'; We're suckers for a well done ad but this, this is simply amazing.
