New Acer Aspire desktop PCs start at $449.99

What can I do to get you into a new Acer Aspire X3 or M3 Series PC? I can't go lower on price - my manager is already busing my stones about dropping the price down to $449.99 - but how about I throw in a "space-saving chassis" and mention they're an "appealing addition to a dorm, bedroom or home office." No? Still nothing? Look, the X3 series is the high-end stuff, a good, strong machine. This M3, though has only been driven one-hundred and then thousand miles by somebody I know personally who changed the graphics cards regularly. You can get an Intel or AMD processor to go with your X series or a nice AMD processor for M3. You've heard bad things about foreign processors? Where? Consumer Reports? They lie. They lie all the time. Can we go into my office, sit down, have some coffee? Talk this over? I think we can make a deal.

  • Nokia X5 square slider gets official in Singapore (update: video!)

Nokia X5 square slider gets official in Singapore (update: video!)

Well, hey, Nokia just officially launched the X5 in Singapore, apparently as a followup to the Twist and the latest chubby square slider to hit in the past few months after the the Motorola Flipout and Kin One. No, we're not sure why this form factor is suddenly a Thing either. This guy is actually Nokia's second X5 --a China-only X5 with a totally different design was announced in April, so that's nice and confusing. We don't have an official spec sheet on this new X5 yet, but we're told it runs Symbian S60, and has a five megapixel camera, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube integration, as well as some sort of shake-based notification feature we don't really understand. It comes in black, hot pink, bright blue, and, um, unattractive yellow, and it's pretty thick, if the hands-on photos are to be believed. That's all we know for now -- hit the source links for a bunch more photos, and we'll let you know if we hear anything else.

    [Thanks, Gabriel]

Quick Look: Sony VAIO X Series notebook

The 1.5-pound, half-inch thick Sony VAIO X Series notebook is easily one of the most impressive portable computers I’ve seen in quite some time. I can’t convey how light it is. It seems to defy logic. My brain doesn’t understand that it’s seeing my hand hold up an 11.1-inch notebook that weighs less than half [...]

Docupen releases the X Series, a sexy personal scanner

I rarely use the words "sexy" and "personal scanner" in rapid succession but today I'm happy to report that Planon has created something special. The X Series is a tiny personal scanner that can scan and send images to laptops, Blackberry phones, and even Planon's own personal printers. Although I never really saw the value in these before, I've recently been on the road a lot and could have used this to scan research for my book. The pen scans in color up and black and white and supports MicroSD card expansion as well as Bluetooth transmission. It has a large OLED screen and only four buttons.
