Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun

I spent a few hours last night playing the Halo: Reach multi-player beta. (Microsoft sent out a few early invites to writing-guys like me, but the beta opens to Halo: ODST owners today.) It's been a while since I've played a Halo game for any real amount of time. I dabbled with Halo 3's multi-player for a little while there, but that was two years ago. First impression of the Reach beta: absence makes the heart grow fonder. CrunchGear: your home for old man idioms.

Someone, somewhere may have Project Natal in their hands *right now*

Looks like someone accidentally left Project Natal in a bar in Redwood City. An Italian site has what it claims to be photos of Microsoft's motion-sensing controller thing "in the wild," as these things go.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 comin’ at ya Spring 2011

There's a couple things going on today. One, of course, it's some sort of smokers' holiday—they're celebrating on Ron and Fez on Sirius XM right now and I'm giggling like a fool. Two, Barcelona plays Inter in the Champions League. And, last but not least, Capcom officially revealed Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Raise your hand if you wasted a number of hours trying to pull off 100-hit combos in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the DreamCast!

New Xbox 360 bundle incoming? Smaller, 250GB HDD, Project Natal built-in.

Full credit to Microsoft: it's still got people paying top-dollar for its nearly five-year-old Xbox 360. It's gonna need to sweeten the deal, though, to keep people a-buyin'. Like, say, a new bundle? Maybe a bundle with a thinner 360 and built-in Project Natal? Sounds about right.

Gears of War 3 all set for April 5, 2011

Yup, Gears of War 3 is now official. I mean, Microsoft already accidentally spilled the beans (what a dumb idiom, by the way) last week, but now the fancy press release has been sent out, and all is well in the world.

‘Yeah, but does it run Crysis 2?’

The World's video game press gathered in New York on Tuesday for the world premiere of Crysis 2, the sequel to the game whose memory lives in on the question, "Yeah, but does it run Crysis?" It's no coincidence that Crtyek, the game's developers, and EA, the game's publisher, chose New York to show off the game, with Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli calling the city "symbolic of the pride of mankind." Clearly he hasn't been to the more rubbish sections of Queens. Yes, you're in an altogether different type of jungle this go-round.

Like flying games? Mad Catz launches the Cyborg F.L.Y. flight stick

Ever since the days of playing F-15 Eagle on my old Atari 800xl, I've had a weakness for flight games. Now days of course there aren't that many of them, but I can still appreciate the need for a good flight stick. Mad Catz just announced the release of the F.L.Y.9 wireless flight stick. I think I want one.

Shocker: The official Xbox 360 flash drive is overpriced

Well, we can't say we didn't see this coming, but the official SanDisk Xbox 360 flash drive cost $40 -- for 8GB. Yeah, that's a little expensive considering 8GB can be had for less than half of that. Thankfully Microsoft actually did something pro-consumer for a change and is allowing any ol' flash drive up to 32GB work the same way.

XScorch 360 controller brings a mouse to the Xbox

Like many FPS gamers of a certain age, I started with the WASD keyboard/mouse control system. As such, I have issues with using a controller to play games on a console, and really wish that someone would come out with a keyboard and mouse control system. There's been a few that come close, and the Scorch 360 looks like another also-ran.
