Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun
Posted on May 3, 2010 | No CommentsI spent a few hours last night playing the Halo: Reach multi-player beta. (Microsoft sent out a few early invites to writing-guys like me, but the beta opens to Halo: ODST owners today.) It's been a while since I've played a Halo game for any real amount of time. I dabbled with Halo 3's multi-player for a little while there, but that was two years ago. First impression of the Reach beta: absence makes the heart grow fonder. CrunchGear: your home for old man idioms.

Someone, somewhere may have Project Natal in their hands *right now*
Posted on April 20, 2010 | No CommentsLooks like someone accidentally left Project Natal in a bar in Redwood City. An Italian site has what it claims to be photos of Microsoft's motion-sensing controller thing "in the wild," as these things go.

New Xbox 360 bundle incoming? Smaller, 250GB HDD, Project Natal built-in.
Posted on April 14, 2010 | No CommentsFull credit to Microsoft: it's still got people paying top-dollar for its nearly five-year-old Xbox 360. It's gonna need to sweeten the deal, though, to keep people a-buyin'. Like, say, a new bundle? Maybe a bundle with a thinner 360 and built-in Project Natal? Sounds about right.

Gears of War 3 all set for April 5, 2011
Posted on April 13, 2010 | No CommentsYup, Gears of War 3 is now official. I mean, Microsoft already accidentally spilled the beans (what a dumb idiom, by the way) last week, but now the fancy press release has been sent out, and all is well in the world.

‘Yeah, but does it run Crysis 2?’
Posted on April 9, 2010 | No CommentsThe World's video game press gathered in New York on Tuesday for the world premiere of Crysis 2, the sequel to the game whose memory lives in on the question, "Yeah, but does it run Crysis?" It's no coincidence that Crtyek, the game's developers, and EA, the game's publisher, chose New York to show off the game, with Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli calling the city "symbolic of the pride of mankind." Clearly he hasn't been to the more rubbish sections of Queens. Yes, you're in an altogether different type of jungle this go-round.

Use a USB drive on your Xbox 360 right now
Posted on April 6, 2010 | No CommentsToday’s the day, kiddies. Today’s the day that Microsoft is allowing users to fully utilize their Xbox 360’s USB ports by granting USB flash drives access to back up game saves and DLCs. So go grab that flash drive you stole from some random kid in your computer networking class and back that crap up. [...] -
Shocker: The official Xbox 360 flash drive is overpriced
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No Comments
Well, we can't say we didn't see this coming, but the official SanDisk Xbox 360 flash drive cost $40 -- for 8GB. Yeah, that's a little expensive considering 8GB can be had for less than half of that. Thankfully Microsoft actually did something pro-consumer for a change and is allowing any ol' flash drive up to 32GB work the same way.

Confirmed: Xbox 360 USB mass storage coming April 6th
Posted on March 26, 2010 | No CommentsQuick note as the headline pretty much says everything you need to know, but Major Nelson announced that Xbox 360 is getting USB mass storage support April 6th just like we thought. You can bring your own flash drive to the party but the service will only support up to 16GB and the 360 will [...] -

XScorch 360 controller brings a mouse to the Xbox
Posted on March 22, 2010 | No Comments
Like many FPS gamers of a certain age, I started with the WASD keyboard/mouse control system. As such, I have issues with using a controller to play games on a console, and really wish that someone would come out with a keyboard and mouse control system. There's been a few that come close, and the Scorch 360 looks like another also-ran.

Video: EA Sports MMA trailer (but where’s Fedor?)
Posted on March 17, 2010 | No CommentsMan, two new trailers in the same day. Our cup runneth over, and so forth! Anyhow, here’s the newest trailer of EA Sports MMA, which should hit stores “late 2010.” That’s all in-game footage, too, so no smoke and mirrors nonsense. Featured prominently are Bobby Lashely, Brett Rogers, King Mo, and Nick Diaz (!). Where’s Fedor? [...]
Ever since the days of playing F-15 Eagle on my old Atari 800xl, I've had a weakness for flight games. Now days of course there aren't that many of them, but I can still appreciate the need for a good flight stick. Mad Catz just announced the release of the F.L.Y.9 wireless flight stick. I think I want one.
