With everyone complaining and wishing for turn-by-turn GPS directions on the iPhone, it looks like one app flew under the radar. Called G-Map, this application originally got bad ratings with most users saying that it didn’t work. Well they fixed it and released a 1.2 version that now gets 3 to 5 stars.
G-Map isn’t perfect, though. There are two versions: one for the Western United States and one for the Eastern. Each weighs in around 800-900MB since the maps are stored locally. They are also quite expensive, at 20 bucks a pop. And since Apple doesn’t allow real time guidance in apps, G-Map doesn’t have voice guidance.
If you need turn by turn directions, I’d say hold out for now or just buy a GPS.
