Care Communication allows doctors to receive and respond to timely and relevant care messages, helping to close gaps in care. With access to critical patient data from health plans, pharmacies, and pharmacy benefit managers, Prematics is making it easier for doctors to make informed decisions when it matters the most--in the exam room.

MCLEAN, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Prematics, the leader in e-prescribing and care communication, announced that its services are now available on Apple’s iPhone® and iPod touch®. As a result, physicians can use a single handheld device to receive care messages and improve patient care management and coordination. Care Communication for iPhone and iPod touch allows physicians to e-prescribe, access clinical information from health plans and pharmacies, and manage their personal and clinical workflow.

“By enabling physicians to access Care Communication services on such a widely-used multi-functional device, we’re making it easier for physicians to make more informed clinical decisions and influence care when and where it matters most—in the exam room with the patient.”

For physicians, having relevant patient data on their iPhone or iPod allows them to easily access vital patient data when they are with the patient, flagging critical issues.

“The use of Prematics Care Communication [delivered via Availity’s CarePrescribe™ service] has improved the work flow in my office and has been a valuable convenience for my patients due to the accuracy of prescriptions and the ability to link in real time with health plans to access covered formulary options. The iPhone and iPod touch devices are a familiar and intuitive interface that has sped the integration of e-prescribing into my practice. Being able to access e-prescribing on my iPhone from anywhere has proved on numerous occasions to be a boon to my patients and to myself, increasing the safety and speed of access to medications for my patients,” said James Haden, M.D., Fort Worth, Texas.

“With an estimated 94 percent of physicians in the U.S. using smartphones, and 44 percent of those using an iPhone, it’s clear that these devices have the potential to become powerful clinical information tools at the point of care,” said David Kates, senior vice president, product and business strategy, Prematics. “By enabling physicians to access Care Communication services on such a widely-used multi-functional device, we’re making it easier for physicians to make more informed clinical decisions and influence care when and where it matters most—in the exam room with the patient.”

Prematics Care Communication allows doctors to receive and respond to timely and relevant care messages, helping to close gaps in patient care. Prematics retrieves and prioritizes vital patient data from health plans, pharmacies, and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), selectively sending the physician the most relevant clinical, and up-to-date benefit information to inform care and enhance physician-patient dialogue. Messages are populated from a variety of sources and can include data about medication non-adherence, inappropriate therapy, needed or unaddressed lab tests, missing medication for a specific condition, and overdue wellness exams, to name a few. After reviewing the care message and discussing it with the patient, the doctor can send a response indicating the action taken to close the gap in care. In this way, Care Communication has the potential to reduce patient health risks, avoid unnecessary procedures, improve physician practice efficiency, and cut costs associated with traditional call center and mail-based information delivery methods.

Prematics primarily serves small- to medium-sized practices where the vast majority of care in the United States is delivered. To date, Prematics has deployed its Care Communication platform among more than 4,000 physicians across Kentucky, Florida, Texas, and Pennsylvania.
