Never Ending Goldrush: Doodle Jump for iPhone Smashes Through 3 Million Sales
Posted on March 9, 2010 | No Comments
Doodle Jump for the iPhone is something like a developer's fairy tale: two brothers set out to make a game using only the talents they've got at hand, and end up striking gold. They keep pushing out minor updates, and the game just keeps selling.
Tomorrow morning, Lima Sky will be announcing that Doodle Jump has just surpassed 3 million sales -- a feat, they claim, is a first for any Indie development house. If it seems like we were just writing about Doodle Jump surpassing the 1 million download mark, it's because we were; that last landmark only just came in mid-December of last year. Less than 3 months later, Lima Sky has managed to triple an already impressive haul.

Boxee and Redux working to democratize the web
Posted on February 23, 2010 | No Comments
Finding quality video content on the web is hard. There's too much porn, or too many lolcats derivatives, and not enough crazy music videos involving LEGOs. Following John's Posterous is one good way to find serendipitous content you might enjoy, but there's only one John, and he does occasionally sleep. If only someone would make an app to crowdsource my web viewing, so that only the best of the best floats up to my screen. Oh, look! Redux does exactly that. And today they're announcing their new Boxee app, to bring all that great content to your television, so you can passively enjoy all that the web has to offer without all that tedious typing and clicking!

HP widens the lead between number two computer maker, Acer
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
Uh-oh, Acer. You better get your stuff together. HP is embarrassing you. Maybe you shouldn't have gone all, "We's gonna be number 1 soon and 4ever!" Because now that HP shipped nearly 1.1 million more notebooks than you in the third quarter of 2009, you look kind of silly.

Ovi Maps: 1.4 million downloads to date, averaging a download per second
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
I'm starting to suspect people like free stuff - a shocker, I know.
Nokia says the new version of Ovi Maps that includes free walk and drive navigation has been downloaded over 1.4 million times since its introduction on 21 January 2010.
Nokia says the 1 million mark was reached after just one week following the launch, and the company's Executive VP Anssi Vanjoki adds that they're currently seeing 'a download a second, 24 hours a day'.

Last.fm Garners Nearly 1 Million New Subscriptions Through Xbox Live
Posted on November 27, 2009 | No Comments
Last Tuesday, Xbox announced that it would integrate Twitter, Facebook, Zune video compatibility, and Last.fm into its Live services. The software update was free, and has thus far been a success. We recently reported that over 2 million Xbox live subscribers used the Facebook feature from their consoles in the first week. Equally as impressive, is the fact that last.fm has netted nearly 1 million new subscribers from the partnership. Since the introduction of the service, last.fm has seen a record number of new subscribers in a 24 hour period and Live users have streamed over 120 million minutes worth of music to their consoles.

Sprint slows (but doesn’t stop) subscriber loss in third quarter
Posted on October 30, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Sprint
Sprint's sort of the Motorola of the carrier world right now -- a once-great force in the industry that may or may not have recognized its shortcomings too late, and the drama is still unfolding before our very eyes. Its results for the third quarter of the year are a mixed bag, because on the one hand, it's nothing but red ink and fleeing subscribers -- but on the flipside, analysts seem to be pleased that the numbers are better than feared. Some 801,000 postpaid customers sought greener pastures in the quarter -- less brutal than the nearly 1 million lost the quarter prior -- and $478 million went flying out of the coffers; chief executive Dan Hesse says he expects customer retention to be a prettier (albeit still net negative) picture in the fourth quarter, so at least these guys are headed in the right direction and we imagine the Pixi will only help with that overall. The big question remains, though: will they turn it around in time to avoid a takeover?Sprint slows (but doesn't stop) subscriber loss in third quarter originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 04:10:00 EST. Were you one of the 1 million Xbox live users that got banned yesterday? Well, you might not want to go buy that new Xbox quite yet. Some of the modders (you know, the ones who got you banned in the first place) are working on a solution that returns the firmware to an almost stock configuration, which would allow you to actually use your console again.
