Is this the Modu T-Phone? (update: yes!)

Modu reminds us a bit of Neonode back in the day -- their products are virtually impossible to find and you don't hear about them terribly often, but when you do, it's almost always interesting news. We'd heard last year that the company would be following its first model with a touch-centric device, and TheGadgetSpot seems to have the straight dope on the new unit, said to be called "T-Phone" with a full touchscreen and a 3G radio. They don't have a date, but it seems Modu is looking at a retail price between $400 and $500 -- hopefully unsubsidized, and hopefully targeting a wider launch than the first time around.

    [Thanks, Itai]

Update: Zach from Know Your Cell has pinged us to let us know that the T-Phone is definitely real -- it's pictured on Modu's site and is claimed to be the lightest touchscreen phone in the world (with a Guinness certification to back it up). It'll apparently have 2GB of internal storage along with microSD expansion and will be available both in 2G and 3G models, presumably for different parts of the world. No release date yet, unfortunately.

    Denon headphones include iPad controls

Denon has released a new set of headphones, bringing the company's total number of headphone models to 14. These new headphones, while exciting from a metaphysical standpoint (Questions can me asked, including "Does Denon really need to sell 14 different headphone models?"), are also interesting from a practical standpoint. The two in-ear models are iPhone and iPad compatibvle while the AH-NC800 - price TBD - are noise canceling. Click through for the press release. Because we weren't sent images I've placed an image of Burt Reynolds here instead.

New Google Mobile App adds Voice Search support for iPod

Google has submitted a new version of its Google Mobile App for the iPhone platform (iTunes link), and the fresh app now finally boasts built-in support for Voice Search on iPod touch devices (2G or newer). Version 0.4.5.3281 also brings improved stability when using Voice Search on 'restrictive networks' and is also said to make Search by Voice completion detection function a bit better. Other than that, the update brings a number of bug fixes, one that fixes pasting into the search box and one that should prevent the app from crashing when you do a search for '@'.

Apple approves a chintzy video app for older iPhones

Do you have 99 cents burning a hole in your pocket? Do you have an old iPhone 2G or 3G? Get yourself this video camera app. The catch? It takes 160x213 video at three frames per second. Three frames per second. Do you know what kind of video that is? That's flip book quality.

Ericsson trials HSPA-LTE interoperability, we count 7 Gs in total

Since it'll be eons until we enjoy the kind of 4G coverage that we've grown used to on 2G (and to a lesser extent, 3G), manufacturers and carriers are hard at work making sure that we've got a reliable way to interoperate for the foreseeable future -- TeliaSonera, for instance, wants to swap out its customers' modems for LTE / HSPA dual-mode versions once they're available next year. To that end, Ericsson and ST-Ericsson are trumpeting that they've become the first to establish "LTE and HSPA mobility" in accordance with 3GPP's Release 8 specification, which dictates this sort of stuff in a way everyone can agree on (that's a good thing). Verizon's naturally more interested in the CDMA handoffs that have already gone down, but for AT&T and most of the rest of the world, this is exciting news indeed.

MMS for iPhone 2G and tethering on OS 3.1.2 explained, not for the faint of heart

Let's be clear upfront that this isn't for the casual iPhone jailbreaker, but if you feeling like living on the edge, you can give your original model an added boost of MMS capability, or any device with OS 3.1.2 the power to tether. Highlighted in a series of tweets today by iPhone dev team lead MuscleNerd, whiterat (for MMS) and two-bit (for tethering) will get the job done, but both require tinkering with the baseband, which is exponentially more advanced and brick-inducing than, say, installing Cydia. Venture forth with the instructions beyond the read links below.

One of the worst parts of the iPhones 2G and 3G was the camera. It wasn’t just that it was a low-res two-megapixel piece of junk. More, it was that it seemed tacked on in decidedly un-Apple way, a vestigial afterthought that, although integrated throughout the iPhone software, never felt as polished as it could. [...]
