No sir, this dude wanted even more power for his Nexus One, so he went ahead and penned a few lines of code that have allowed his Googlephone to act as a USB host. As a result, he can now do cutting edge stuff like plugging in USB keyboards and webcams, as well as more useful things like watching movies off USB sticks or connecting to a monitor via a DisplayLink USB-to-DVI adapter. All these features are demonstrated in the video after the break, and you'll find the downloadable binaries at the source -- Sven expects them to work on Android 2.1 as well.

Acer’s Android-powered Stream gets official, gets handled, lives up to its name with DLNA support (video)
Posted on May 27, 2010 | No CommentsIf for some reason none of the current Android slates have tickled your fancy, not the Nexus One nor the Droid Incredible nor even the Evo, maybe Acer's Stream is for you. It sports Nexus One-like specs, with a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and 512MB of RAM. It's five megapixel camera can record 720p video and it can also play back content at the same resolution with support for Xvid, WMV HD, and others. There's an HDMI port on-board in case you want to bring that content to the big(ger) screen, and it'll even act as a DLNA and UPnP streamer on WiFi, with dedicated play/pause, fast-foward, and rewind buttons. This could be the most media-friendly Android smartphone we've yet seen, and that it's already made its way into the hands of a previewer (as shown in the favoloso video after the break) and has passed FCC scrutineering is a very, very good sign that this could be serving up your home media collection soon.

Don't cry to AT&T or Apple if you crack your iPhone screen. They don't care. Besides as this pictures and Cnet story clearly shows, with a bit of patience, nearly anyone can replace an iPhone screen. This 10-year boy used a $20 kit available from 3gcrackedglass.com to replace the glass on his dad's iPhone and in turn saved him from the $200 repair bill that Apple would have charged for the same service.

So you don't like a stylus, but you don't want to get your iPhone screen all dirty either. Easy solution, build a knob that will simulate the act of touching your iPhone screen. This is an easy build, but it'll take some tweaking to get the fabric in the right places to work properly. Seems like there's been quite a few iPhone related knobs lately.

Montblanc is a pen company. They do watches as an aside, some sort of weird cross-marketing thing that presumably they'll use to convince watch lovers to go and pick up some pens. However, they have truly outdone themselves with the TimeWriter 1 Metamorphosis.
Ariel at ABlogtoRead found the full details on this watch but, in short, when you pull down a lever the entire face changes. One face, with the lever up, shows the time and date. When you pull the lever you release a single-push chronograph. While the technology isn't that impressive, the presentation is amazing. Assuming this is durable, this is just the type of emergency shelter I could see using myself. The JakPak turns from an all-weather jacket into a portable shelter by unzipping into a basic bivy sack. It's a given that it wouldn't be terribly comfortable, but in a survival situation who cares about comfort.

OK, so we know a thing or two about the "convenience" of using your iPhone as a remote control. For instance, using it to control Boxee was alright -- until we needed to make a call. Or we received a call. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the idea of re-purposing your phone to act as a universal remote seems a little silly. But what do we know? Maybe you hold all calls while Jersey Shore is on anyways. In that case, Re could be your next favorite gadget. This bad boy lets your handset communicate with all your AV equipment via infrared, contains an extensive database of devices, and can learn from any IR remote. If that weren't enough, New Kinetix promises regular updates to the app -- and your typical remote can't do that!
