Too much WWDC? There’s always this charming little video of kids acting out SMB
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No CommentsThere’s always a good number of readers who complain ruefully about WWDC days. It’s Apple this and Apple that, right? Well, how about some kids named Ryker and Raiden (!!?) pretending to be Mario and Luigi while their parents act out the roles of Goomba, Princess Peach, and Bowser? It’s 6 minutes long and you generally [...] -
Nexus One gets USB host driver from a dude with an oscilloscope (video)
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No CommentsFor Sven Killig, running Android 2.2 wasn't enough. No sir, this dude wanted even more power for his Nexus One, so he went ahead and penned a few lines of code that have allowed his Googlephone to act as a USB host. As a result, he can now do cutting edge stuff like plugging in USB keyboards and webcams, as well as more useful things like watching movies off USB sticks or connecting to a monitor via a DisplayLink USB-to-DVI adapter. All these features are demonstrated in the video after the break, and you'll find the downloadable binaries at the source -- Sven expects them to work on Android 2.1 as well.Continue reading Nexus One gets USB host driver from a dude with an oscilloscope (video)

Greenpeace says Nintendo is the worst company on Earth, tells Dell to clean up its act
Posted on May 26, 2010 | No CommentsGreenpeace's relentless march toward reminding us that we're killing the planet continues. The organization released its annual "Who's Green?" list yesterday, and Nokia and Sony Ericsson get A+ marks, while Lenovo and Nintendo are, apparently, the dregs of society. Also on the wrong side of Greenpeace: Dell. The Texas-based company found itself on the wrong end of a rather impressive Greenpeace action yesterday. Oh, dear...

Even a 10-year old can replace an iPhone’s glass
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No Comments
Don't cry to AT&T or Apple if you crack your iPhone screen. They don't care. Besides as this pictures and Cnet story clearly shows, with a bit of patience, nearly anyone can replace an iPhone screen. This 10-year boy used a $20 kit available from 3gcrackedglass.com to replace the glass on his dad's iPhone and in turn saved him from the $200 repair bill that Apple would have charged for the same service.

DIY: a knob for your iPhone
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No Comments
So you don't like a stylus, but you don't want to get your iPhone screen all dirty either. Easy solution, build a knob that will simulate the act of touching your iPhone screen. This is an easy build, but it'll take some tweaking to get the fabric in the right places to work properly. Seems like there's been quite a few iPhone related knobs lately.

Bungie: The Halo 2 big E3 reveal back in 2003 was ’smoke and mirrors’
Posted on April 12, 2010 | No CommentsWell now this is mildly embarrassing. Six years ago, Bungieshowed off, and I guess I use that term loosely now, Halo 2 for the very first time. Let's see... 2003, that would make me 17. Trivia! Anyhow, what Bungie showed was a complete hunk of nonsense. This is where you act surprised.

JakPak converts from jacket to emergency shelter
Posted on March 5, 2010 | No Comments
Assuming this is durable, this is just the type of emergency shelter I could see using myself. The JakPak turns from an all-weather jacket into a portable shelter by unzipping into a basic bivy sack. It's a given that it wouldn't be terribly comfortable, but in a survival situation who cares about comfort.

Re transforms your iPhone into a universal remote (which seems like a step backwards, to be honest)
Posted on December 20, 2009 | No Comments
OK, so we know a thing or two about the "convenience" of using your iPhone as a remote control. For instance, using it to control Boxee was alright -- until we needed to make a call. Or we received a call. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the idea of re-purposing your phone to act as a universal remote seems a little silly. But what do we know? Maybe you hold all calls while Jersey Shore is on anyways. In that case, Re could be your next favorite gadget. This bad boy lets your handset communicate with all your AV equipment via infrared, contains an extensive database of devices, and can learn from any IR remote. If that weren't enough, New Kinetix promises regular updates to the app -- and your typical remote can't do that! Compatible with the iPod Touch as well, there's no word yet on a price or release date, but we're expecting that we'll be getting plenty more details come CES time.Re transforms your iPhone into a universal remote (which seems like a step backwards, to be honest) originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 20 Dec 2009 02:25:00 EST. Montblanc is a pen company. They do watches as an aside, some sort of weird cross-marketing thing that presumably they'll use to convince watch lovers to go and pick up some pens. However, they have truly outdone themselves with the TimeWriter 1 Metamorphosis.
