Too much WWDC? There’s always this charming little video of kids acting out SMB

There’s always a good number of readers who complain ruefully about WWDC days. It’s Apple this and Apple that, right? Well, how about some kids named Ryker and Raiden (!!?) pretending to be Mario and Luigi while their parents act out the roles of Goomba, Princess Peach, and Bowser? It’s 6 minutes long and you generally [...]

  • LG Aloha/LU2300 Android QWERTY Will Launch on Verizon as “Ally”

LG Aloha/LU2300 Android QWERTY Will Launch on Verizon as “Ally”

I know I'm not alone in my lust for decent phones with QWERTY keypads. While I've been thoroughly enjoying the company of my touch-screen-only HTC Hero for 7 months now, I must admit that I am looking at other (more well endowed) phones while Hero's back is turned. But you know what? She's ok with that. I guess that's why we work so well together... even though I dream of the days where I could type without looking at the keyboard. ...and along comes Ally...

  • From 1978: Unbelievable Japanese “Star Wars” TV spot for “sea chicken”

From 1978: Unbelievable Japanese “Star Wars” TV spot for “sea chicken”

Star Wars has always been popular in Japan, so seeing Luke Skywalker et al. in a Japanese TV commercial from the 1970s isn't a big deal in itself. But seeing the Star Wars franchise being used for promoting "sea chicken" (canned tuna) is kind of unusual. Needless to say, the gaijin acting in the TV spot, which was first aired on Japanese TV in 1978, are just look-alikes. And apparently, "sea chicken" maker Hagoromo Foods has used the Star Wars setting without getting a license from Lucasarts. Different times back then, I guess. TV spot after the jump.

  • BlackBerry service acting a fool today?

BlackBerry service acting a fool today?

We've gotten sporadic reports today that BlackBerry service -- possibly just BIS -- has been down for at least a period today, which would amazingly mark the fourth time a serious outage has occurred in RIM's fortress in just the past several weeks. That's bad for any device, but it's particularly tragic for a platform that has staked its reputation on reliability. What's everyone seeing out there right now?

So, Is Operation Chokehold Melting AT&T In Your Area?

It’s just after 12 o’clock here on the left coast, which means Operation Chokehold should now be in full effect. What that means (if anything at all) is still up in the air — which is why we’re turning to you for a status report. For the uninitiated: Operation Chokehold is a sort of cyber-protest against [...]

Remove the special effects from the 2012 trailer and this is what you get

2012 will be a horribly, bad movie. This clever trailer proves that once you take out all the special effects, you're simply left with John Cusack's acting, which isn't worth whatever the hell they are charging to see movies these days.
