  • Lenovo: 80% of the technology will run on the mobile web by 2015

Lenovo: 80% of the technology will run on the mobile web by 2015

Lenovo company chief Yang Yuanqing said that soon the majority of Lenovo products would run on the mobile web, meaning a cross of 3G and 4G technologies. Most of their current line comes with 3G built in and their ThinkPad line is just screaming out for mobile web simply because it is aimed at the on-the-go professional. What think I on this topic? I think Lenovo is unqiuely placed to take advantage of the mobile web, along with Dell and HP. All three are seen as "business" notebook manufacturers, for better or worse, and that's a low margin business. By adding 3G capabilities out of the box they presumably get a cut from the carriers as they sell more units.

Pac-Man bookcase sacrifices shelf space to make room for mouth wedge

Will nobody address the elephant in the room when it comes to this awesomely wonderful Pac-Man bookcase? The mouth wedge eats up (pun intended!) valuable shelf space. But what’s the designer to do? The bookcase could be a full yellow circle to represent Pac-Man’s mouth in the closed position but people would argue, “Hey, it just looks like a yellow circle. Then again if you made the mouth wedge, you’d give up precious shelf space.”

  • Hands-On: New OtterBox Palm Pre Case

Hands-On: New OtterBox Palm Pre Case

tandem-series-adThe Palm Pre doesn't really have too many options for cases, but OtterBox is using that for their advantage. OtterBox today announced the new Tandem Series, which features a overmolded design, and also incorporates silicone into the polycarbonate shell for maximum protection. The first shell attaches to the front of the smartphone and the second shell attaches to the back. Silicone then lines the outside edges of the case and combines with polycarbonate to offer more stability. Once the case is assembled, it allows for complete functionality, even when sliding the screen. I've noticed when playing around with the case that it makes it easier to slide the Pre up and down.

  • Pedal Brain’s Gadget Turns Your iPhone Into A Powerful Cycling Computer

Pedal Brain’s Gadget Turns Your iPhone Into A Powerful Cycling Computer

For years, runners have been able to take advantage of Nike+, a nifty accessory that lets your iPod communicate with your shoes to turn it into a personal running coach of sorts. Soon, cyclists will have access to a tool that's in the same vein as Nike+, but far more powerful. It's called Pedal Brain, and it allows your iPhone or iPod Touch to receive and interpret data from a variety of exercise devices that use the ANT+ wireless protocol. ANT+ is used by cyclists (including many professionals) to accurately measure and analyze their performance over a ride, but until now there hasn't been a way to connect these devices to your iPhone. That's where Pedal Brain comes in. The bootstrapped startup is making a small device called the Pedal Brain Synapse that plugs into your iPhone or iPod Touch and allows them to receive this data, which is then interpreted by an iPhone app. The application shows you how you're performing in real-time (you'll want to mount your iPhone in plain view) and can also use GPS to show the position of your team members.

Someone call the RIAA: Amazon accidentally sends out Lil Wayne album despite the fact that it’s been delayed till February

Oops! As I'm sure you all know, famous rapper Lil Wayne has a new album in the works. It was supposed to come out next week, but was pushed back for whatever reason. No big deal, albums get pushed back all the time. (See: Detox. We'll have flying cars by the time that comes out.) Anyhow, apparently Amazon didn't get the memo since it sent out copies of the album to about 500 people who pre-ordered it. And as if you had to ask: yes, the album has already been pirated. I guarantee you can find it on Canal Street (to say nothing of “the Internet”) by the end of the day today.

Best Buy to sell Modern Warfare 2 at midnight and fuel your gaming obsession even more

Look out, Walmart. Best Buy is going to sell Modern Warefare 2 at midnight too. But unlike Walmart, Best Buy's average middle of the night clientele doesn't look like this. or this. or this. The line will start at 10:30 p.m. and at 12:01 a.m., you and a few other socially-stunted gamers will get a chance to buy the game. How exciting. If you must be the first to own the game, there is a nice little advantage to buying the game at Best Buy instead of Walmart though.
