It starts: Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas complains about Adidas Jabulani ball ahead of World Cup

Right on cue, then. 'Twas only a few days ago that I had mentioned the grand tradition of World Cup goalkeepers complaining about the ball used in the tournament, and we now have our very first complaints (at least I think it's the first). Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who's probably the best goalkeeper going into the tournament (it's either him or Júlio César, of Brazil), said after Spain's 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia in a pre-tournament friendly about an hour ago: "It's a little sad that in a competition as big as the World Cup to have such a poor ball [the Jabulani]. It's not just the goalkeepers complaining, but the outfield players as well." Here we go~!

Sony sales numbers reveal surging PS3, waning PSP

Sony just released the numbers from the last fiscal year (April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010). The good news (for Sony and its shareholders, at least) is that PS3 sales were up quite a bit from the previous year, going from 10.1 million sold to 13 million this year. The bad news is that PSP sales have hit a bump in the road, going from 14.1 million in to 9.9 million. Translating those numbers into English, that means that the PS3 is doing a heck of a lot better than it ever was, and that the PSP, well, isn't.

  • Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun

Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun

I spent a few hours last night playing the Halo: Reach multi-player beta. (Microsoft sent out a few early invites to writing-guys like me, but the beta opens to Halo: ODST owners today.) It's been a while since I've played a Halo game for any real amount of time. I dabbled with Halo 3's multi-player for a little while there, but that was two years ago. First impression of the Reach beta: absence makes the heart grow fonder. CrunchGear: your home for old man idioms.

StarCraft II given Adults Only rating in South Korea, teens freak out in response

StarCraft II has tentatively been given an Adults Only (18+) rating in South Korea, causing Blizzard a certain amount of consternation. Blizzard has 30 days to appeal the rating. If you think that volcano caused chaos and mayhem, you obviously aren't familiar StarCraft's significance in South Korea.

Shrimp shells may be used to repair spinal injuries, glass can help rebuild bone

A report released in the Journal of Experiment Biology today talked about how scientists have discovered a way to use chitosan to repair nerve damage. Keep in mind that chitosan is a material made from the shells of shrimp, and is not that far from the shells of insects.

    Review: iRobot Looj

Let it be said that I do not like heights. I also do not like cleaning out gutters. Add those two “dislikes” together and you get the iRobot Looj. The Looj, unlike iRobot’s Roomba, is slightly less intelligent than a broom on the end of a large stick, but it serves a very important purpose: [...]

HTC Incredible gets rendered, looks incredible

We can't say for sure whether this is an actual leak or the work of an overly talented individual with just the right amount of time on their hands. Either way, that render up there is the most gloriously high resolution look at the Verizon-bound HTC Incredible Android wunderphone that we've been blessed with so far.

Sirius XM proves its worth this week with Winter Music Conference broadcasts

There's one week per year that there's reason to listen to Sirius XM beyond XM Channel 202 The Virus. That's right, it's Winter Music Conference time, a time when the world's top DJs and producers descend upon Miami and have themselves a good ol' Dionysian time. House music, trance, progressive, Dutch tourists trying to find food that won't kill them, etc. It's a good example of what satellite radio could have been.

“Camera-man”: This is what Pentax wants your camera to look like

In October last year, Pentax launched a "robotic" version of their K-x entry level digital camera, a colorful variation of the conventional black model. And today, the same company, presented another "creative" approach, the "Camera-man" [JP]. It's not a new camera (or a special version of an existing device) but a set of accessories, namely a special 52mm lens cap (which shows a smiley) and a puppet body that needs to be fixed beneath the cap.

Amtrak to add Wi-Fi to Acela line in March

I’ve personally taken Amtrak’s high-speed Acela line between Boston and New York more times than I can remember. At 3.5 hours, it’s roughly the same amount of time you’d spend jumping through hoops at the airport but it’s a far less abrasive experience overall. The inclusion of free Wi-Fi ought to add yet another compelling reason to choose trains over planes.

  • Why No iPhone Updates? The Tablet, Perhaps.

Why No iPhone Updates? The Tablet, Perhaps.

It’s been over three months since Apple last updated the iPhone OS to version 3.1.2. And while that’s not an unheard of amount of time between updates, it is quite a bit of time to go without even word that a new update is coming soon. Why? It could be because Apple doesn’t want to tip its hand about any information about the upcoming tablet, a new report today suggests.

There hasn’t been an updated iPhone OS build because there’s too much tablet-related code/references in the OS and Apple obviously didn’t want that to leak. Oops,” is what Boy Genius Report says it is hearing from an Apple source it trusts. That news comes with a few other bits, including that the tablet’s multi-touch gestures are “out of control,” that it’s powered by an ARM processor, that it (obviously with the above information) runs on the iPhone kernel, and that it’s basically an “iPhone on steroids.”

Everything you need to know about Halo: Reach

Bungie has done a great job of making fans salivate over Halo: Reach by keeping most the aspects of the game under wraps. Thus far, all the info we have been able to discern has come from the trailers which Bungie released--until now. Yesterday, leaked pictures (shown below) of an upcoming Game Informer magazine hit the web, and the information is quite revealing. It looks like the team at Bungie is going all out on this title. The magazine deals mostly with the campaign--profiling new weapons, characters, and vehicles, but tidbits regarding the multiplayer experience were included as well. All the info we have gathered is after the jump.
