Goodnight, sweet iPhone: Apple pulls iPhone 3G sales from their online store

You know what's coming up in just a few days? Apples Worldwide Developer Conference. With WWDC comes new iPhones.. and with new iPhones, comes the death of an old one. Apple may very well still offer the 3GS after the fourth-generation iPhone is on the shelves -- but offering the fourth-gen iPhone, the 3GS, and the 3G? Probably not going to happen. The first herald of the iPhone 3G's impending death has come.

Apples releases iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 SDK to developers

It’s that time again, folks: with another two weeks behind us, Apple has released yet another Beta rendition of iPhone OS 4. Like those that came before it, this fourth Beta release is signed and sealed for developers only — in other words, if you’re not a dev, you’ll have to sit tight for a [...]

Crazy powerful and magical? Where do I sign?

As I said before, I like me my iPad but the magical language has to go. This is the latest iPad commercial and it sounds more like a soliloquy from Easy Rider than a CE commercial, which I guess is Apples modus operandi. It also sounds like they’re using Gold Lion from the Yeah Yeah [...]

  • Let’s welcome Palm to the land of the living dead

Let’s welcome Palm to the land of the living dead

I’ve been bearish on Palm as a standalone platform since they launched last May and today the sadness-tinged chickens have come home to roost: Palm is now part of HP and, like the iPaq before it, the Pre and Pixi will slowly be subsumed into the company’s line-up. In fact, I couldn’t be happier for Palm. [...]

Two-week iMac rentals for $8.56 per day?

I noticed the fellas from PoketyPoke each carrying around an iMac box after the Digital Experience event at CES last week. “Wow, you guys really went all out,” said I. “Yeah,” said they, “Did you know you can rent an iMac for two weeks for $120?”

  • Palm App catalog hits 1,000 apps… okay, 946

Palm App catalog hits 1,000 apps… okay, 946

Hey, good news everybody! The Palm App Catalog, which has lagged far behind its peers, has reached the 1,000 app milestone as of this morning. Well, to be precise, it's hit 946, as pointed out by Electronista, but still, it's a nice little sign of growth for the webOS apps, whose development was hampered by very restricted initial access to its Mojo SDK. In comparison to contenders such as Android, whose catalog numbers around 20,000, and Apples iTunes store, which boasts over 100,000, Palm's numbers are extremely modest -- but progress is progress, especially considering it launched its App Catalog in June with just 30 apps. We look forward to hearing Palm's CES keynote, that's for sure.

Japan gets another set of those “Crazy Earphones”

Do you remember the so-called Crazy Earphones Tokyo-based gadget maker Solid Alliance released back in October? Apparently the silly things sold well, otherwise the company probably wouldn't have updated [JP] the series, which consisted of sushi, bananas, cat paws and bolts.

OMG! A leaked backplate for some sort of upcoming Apple device!

So what’s all this then? A company called China Ontrade is selling an iPhone Generation 4 2010 backplate with camera holes for $23.42. China Ontrade, interestingly enough, was the company that started selling iPhone 3GS screens a few months before launch. What does this prove? Not much. Maybe they’re trying to drum up excitement or maybe [...]

Need a replica iPhone? No? Well here’s one anyway.

Screen shot 2009-10-26 at [ October 26 ] 9.50.26 AM In just about every other movie or TV show we watch, at least one of the characters (if not half the cast) is rocking the iPhone. For example: Have you seen Chuck? If not, you definitely should -- it's a great show -- but it has more Apples than Granny Smith. Sooner or later, one of these shows is going to have a reason to destroy an iPhone on camera. Up until now, the prop folks have only read had two options: Smash a real iPhone to pieces, or recreate the iPhone in one-off prop form. Depending on the size of the production, either of those options might be a bit too pricey. Enter: the iPhone dummy.

    Happy 40th birthday, Nerf!

In honor of Nerf’s 40th anniversary and the launch of the N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS 35 blaster, which ships today, Nerf sent over a mighty fine and ginormous care package to the CG office. I can’t believe the Parker Brothers developed Nerf in 1969 and the first product was some dumb four-inch polyurethane foam ball. They’ve come a long way since then. Let’s dig into the goodie bag.
