Sprint Moment and Hero to get Android 2.1 in “the coming weeks” [Updated!]

See that image above? It’s notable for two reasons: I’m fairly confident it takes the much coveted title for “Hardest to read leaked document ever”. It, in all of its tiny text, confirms that the Sprint HTC Hero and Samsung Moment will be upgraded to Android 2.1 soon. Update: We’ve now got a more legible picture and a [...]

It has been a long time coming, but the notorious JBL MS-8 is almost here. Car audio forums have been talking up this digital signal processor system since 2007 when it debuted in a BMW demo car. It reached vaporware status in the minds of many, but JBL finally went live with its April release date and price today.

Plastic Logic pushes the Que E-Reader launch back to mid-summer

Bad news and good news. You can probably guess the bad news if you read the headline. Plastic Logic has officially delayed the Que. You may recall that the Que was the one e-reader at CES 2010 that stood above the crowd thanks to its very thin casing and large screen. It was supposed to ship mid-April, but the company can't meet that deadline. The new shipping timetable is mid-summer.

Surprise! HTC Legend pre-orders delivered a bit early

Handset manufacturers are usually pretty good about holding their tongue about specific release dates until the launch date is a sure thing, so it’s not too often that we see delays in the mobile world. What’s even more rare than a delay, however, is something shipping way earlier than expected. And yet, that seems to be [...]

Foxconn’s suppliers denies iPad delay rumors (big surprise)

There's been some unfounded rumors swirling around the Internet water cooler the last few days that Apple's initial shipment of iPads will only be around 300,000. That's far less than the expected numbers of 600,000-700,000, which would no doubt cause fanboy riots and shenanigans at Apple Stores nationwide. John called BS on these rumors a few days back and now Foxconn's suppliers has done the same.

  • The Asus Eee Keyboard will now be released in April 2010

The Asus Eee Keyboard will now be released in April 2010

It seems a little odd that we first saw the Eee Keyboard at CES 2009 and it's still not available. The demo that we played with at least seemed like it was nearly production ready. But here we are over a year later and now the Asus chairman is stating that the new release date is April 2010. Like we haven't heard that one before.

Puma Phone by Sagem given some hands-on treatment

When I first saw shots of the new Puma phone, I was a little skeptical. It looked decent enough, but the whole solar charging thing made it seem a little gimmicky. After seeing the following video from Mobile World Congress, however, it's beginning to look more like a smartphone I'd actually use.

No web filter: Sony to stop offering the XEL-1 OLED TV (in Japan)

Say what you want about it (too expensive, too small etc.), but I've always liked the world's first commercially available OLED TV, Sony's XEL-1. It's just an 11-inch screen and costs $2,200, but the picture quality is just gorgeous. Today, however, Sony announced they won't produce and sell the device on the Japanese market anymore.

  • New Japanese cell phone maker NEC-Casio to go America in 2010

New Japanese cell phone maker NEC-Casio to go America in 2010

As MobileCrunch reported back in August, three of Japan's eight top cell phone makers, namely NEC, Casio and Hitachi are going to merge their cell phone businesses next year. Under the agreement, NEC plans to integrate its handset division into a tie-up that already existed between Hitachi and Casio starting April 2010 (the begin of the new fiscal year under the Japanese business calendar). In the meantime, the companies involved decided on a name for the new venture: NEC Casio Mobile. The company's capitalization stands at a relatively modest $55 million, with NEC holding a 71% stake, Casio 20% and Hitachi 9%. And as I speculated in my previous article, that new company plans to enter the global market in a (relatively) aggressive way.

CrunchGear visits Thanko’s new USB flagship store in Akihabara (photo report)

USB-powered neckties, slippers, boob warmers, spy button cameras and tons of other ludicrous stuff: Thanko [JP], Japan's (and possibly the world's) most notorious maker of USB gadgets (most of which nobody really needs) never disappoints in the silliness department. The company closed their English online store just last month but continues to impress business-wise by opening a new flagship store right in the heart of Akihabara.

Lord of the Rings Blu-ray trilogy on track for April release, but don’t buy it

Too bad the upcoming $99 Blu-ray release is just the theatrical edition and not the extended-cut version. It’s not even worth the $69 price Amazon has it set at for pre-order as you know the other version will come out eventually anyway. New Line just wants fans to double dip. Fail. Apple patent shows Bluetooth headset with built-in media player

Writing about patents really ought to be banned, since so many companies file so many patents every year that it's silly to cherry pick this one or that one, drawing attention to something that may never exist. Be that as it may, today an Apple patent was discovered that shows a wireless headset that includes a media player. Think of it as “a Bluetooth” with a built-in MP3 player.
