Halo: Reach multi-player beta is really quite fun
Posted on May 3, 2010 | No CommentsI spent a few hours last night playing the Halo: Reach multi-player beta. (Microsoft sent out a few early invites to writing-guys like me, but the beta opens to Halo: ODST owners today.) It's been a while since I've played a Halo game for any real amount of time. I dabbled with Halo 3's multi-player for a little while there, but that was two years ago. First impression of the Reach beta: absence makes the heart grow fonder. CrunchGear: your home for old man idioms.

Posted on March 8, 2010 | No CommentsWe've given you a first look at Iron Man 2 way back in June last year, and two months ago, we reported it will be Marvel’s first IMAX movie when it hits screens on May 7, 2010. It's 2.32 minutes long and very, very cool.

Marines buy portable armor that comes in a flat pack
Posted on February 10, 2010 | No Comments
This is strangely cool. A defense contractor developed a type of steel reinforced armor that could replace the basic sandbag encampment. The armor assembles extremely quickly and is resistant to bullets, grenades, and IED blasts. It also takes about 10 minutes to put together without tools. It really is amazing the new technology that is coming out for the military.

Assassin’s Creed III could hit shelves as early as April 2010
Posted on January 14, 2010 | No Comments
Experiencing Assassin's Creed blues now that you've finished the game, unlocked Altair's armor, found all the glyphs, and have collected all 100 impossible-to-find feathers? Don't fret friends. According to Ubisoft's financial release this morning, Assassin's Creed III will be released in fiscal year 2011, which begins in April 2010.
It was previously thought that this would only be an expansion to Assassin's Creed II, but Ubisoft has confirmed it is a new title featuring Ezio, and will have an online multiplayer mode.

Too big to fail: Using MMOs to study economics
Posted on October 6, 2009 | No CommentsWe all know that real world officials have used games like World of Warcraft to monitor the spread of infectious diseases, like trout flu. But what's new to my eyes, broken pieces of junk that they are (I wouldn't be able see Jupiter even if I were five feet away from it), is that researchers are using them to study economics. It's simultaneously a bad and good idea.

More Bars, Less Security, in More Places: AT&T can’t keep out script kiddies UPDATE
Posted on August 20, 2009 | No CommentsKevin’s new phone There’s a guy named Kevin Mitnick who, once upon a time, was public enemy number one when it came to computer crime. Mitnick has turned over a new leaf and is now a computer crime consultant and, apparently, his disloyalty to the script-kiddie credo has made him a target for hackers. These hackers are [...] -
Review: DS Lite Transformers kit from PDP
Posted on July 15, 2009 | No Comments
Short Version: Friends, this is the nerdiest and coolest Nintendo DS Lite case that a Transformers fan could ask for. What kid (12-year-old or 35-year-old) wouldn’t want their DS too look like Bumblebee or Megatron? Do you see the stylus that each set comes with? Pick one up for your kid or yourself. They’re only $20.

Very cool RC toy: “Mission Carrier SWAT truck” with helicopter (video)
Posted on July 14, 2009 | No Comments
Just yesterday we featured Bandai's cool remote-controlled heli-robot Sky Armor, and now the same company (its subsidiary CCP, to be exact) announced the Mission Carrier SWAT [JP], a combination of a truck and helicopter. And this toy is even better than Sky Armor.
The cool thing about the SWAT truck is the sound and the elevating deck: Push a button on the remote to make the panels in the back of the truck open and reveal the mini helicopter inside of it. The helicopter can then be controlled just like every other RC helicopter (for 5 minutes after a 30 minute charge). Needless to say, you can also let the truck itself drive around.

Bethesda delays Fallout 3 PS3 DLC till September
Posted on July 13, 2009 | No Comments
Ouch. Bethesda just said, on the official PlayStation blog, that it's going to delay the release of all that Fallout 3 DLC for the PS3. Yup, PS3 gamers won't be able to play the DLC until the end of September. Silver lining: Broken Steel will be the first one released, immediately raising the level cap and letting gamers play the game post-final mission.
This is a pretty cool RC toy from Japan. Bandai has announced the Sky Armor, a remote-controlled robot that can fly around using not one but two propellers. The robot stands 17cm tall and weighs 21g. One battery charge (30 minutes) is enough to play with it for 4 minutes.
