Jailbreak fix for iTunes 9.1 on Windows already on the way
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No Comments
There was a wee bit of chaos amongst iPhone jailbreakers after this morning's iTunes 9.1 update hit. Seemingly out of nowhere, "tethered" jailbreaks (the slightly-less-convenient type necessary for newer iPhones) stopped working. Panic!
Fortunately, the endlessly resourceful army behind the jailbreaking effort has already isolated the problem, and a fix is in the works.

Microsoft: No, WinMo 6.5 devices will not be upgraded to Windows Phone 7
Posted on March 1, 2010 | No Comments

Termination fees for Nexus One come from both Google and T-Mobile
Posted on January 12, 2010 | No Comments
Prepare the foot soldiers from the Internet Nerd Rage army for this one. Apparently if you buy a subsidized Google Nexus One and “cancel your wireless plan prior to 120 days of continuous wireless service,” you’ll be charged the difference between what you paid for the device and its full retail price of $529. So at its current subsidized price of $179, you’d pay a $350 early termination fee. That fee is paid to Google, by the way, “and is in addition to any early termination fees that may be charged by your chosen carrier.”

Dell Mini 3iX shows up at FCC, with WiFi and 3G in tow
Posted on November 6, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, ATT, Android
Having already witnessed the case and UI of Dell's incoming Android invader, we can now pretty much complete the picture with the latest info from the FCC. Reassuringly, WiFi and 3G -- the two big modifications from the China-bound Mini 3i -- both make it onto US soil, leaving us with only the timeless questions of when and how much. The Chinese version of the phone runs a 360 x 640 resolution on a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, which makes for a nice base to get all that wireless communication (Bluetooth included) flowing. We can expect the Mini 3iX to find its way onto AT&T's awesome networks some time in 2010, joining a growing army of Android devices vying for your cash, love and understanding.

The Droid is coming, and it brought friends
Posted on October 23, 2009 | No Comments
Chalk this one up as a rumor, but it's looking like Droid is going to be an army, rather then a lone warrior. There's been some rumblings that at least other handset manufacturers are creating their own Droids as well.

A Flip Video remote? On the FCC website? What?
Posted on October 2, 2009 | No CommentsA strange Flip Video remote has been found on the FCC website, whose existence alone seems to indicate Flip Video has something new coming out. I mean, you don’t really need a remote control for a pocket camcorder, right? However, you do need a remote for, say, a set-top box. Think about it. Flip Video already [...] -
Behind the scenes look at PGA Tour’s ‘ShotLink’ technology
Posted on September 20, 2009 | No CommentsPretty interesting behind the scenes article and video over at Sandbox8 about how the seemingly endless stream of statistical data flows around the course at a PGA Tour event. Most of the data is gathered by on-course volunteers armed with various portable survey equipment and wireless devices. From the article: If you have ever watched a [...] -
Nokia’s 3720 Classic is ready for a beating
Posted on July 9, 2009 | No CommentsThe way I see it, there are really only 3 types of people who need rugged phones: Army folk Contractors and construction workers People who get angry when they drink Do any of those (#3) sound like you? The new Nokia 3720 Classic might be perfect for you. Launching later this summer at right around $175 bucks (€125), the 3720 [...]

You know how it is: you go down to your secret lair to work on the prototype for your armada of deathbots, and you get paralyzed by the sheer enormity of the project you've undertaken. Not only do you need to find the raw materials, you need to design the bodies and weapons systems, build in failsafes so they don't attack you, and basically write a complete operating system from scratch. That's a lot of work for a busy tyrant-to-be, and frankly such details distract from the big picture of global domination.
Thankfully, there's a crew of people working to standardize and abstract robot operating systems to reduce the time-to-market for your electronic henchmen.
Even though summer has been effectively cancelled for certain areas of the country, it doesn't mean you still can't enjoy an all-American barbecue. You'll just have to cook everything on the stove and eat inside. Just like summer, except more like winter!
