Samsung M5650 takes Corby a little upmarket
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No CommentsIn case you hadn't realized that the full-touch invasion was in full swing, consider this your final warning: Samsung has just announced its M5650, essentially a minor upmarket revision from the colorful Corby launches a few months back. On top of a 3 megapixel cam, the M5650 features WiFi, 3G, some trick social network integration (expect any phone worth a damn to do this in 2010), an FM radio, something Samsung ominously calls the "Cartoon UI," and a one-touch music key. It's not going to blow anyone away on paper, but this is the kind of sweet little number that could get subsidized down to free on virtually any postpaid carrier in the world -- and zero out-of-pocket is always an intriguing proposition, is it not? The M5650's available now in Portugal and will be coming to other parts of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia before too long.Samsung M5650 takes Corby a little upmarket originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 21 Dec 2009 18:27:00 EST. The Belkin Bluetooth Music Receiver sends your iPhone’s music to speakers and such
Posted on December 16, 2009 | No CommentsLooking at this Belkin Bluetooth Music Receiver, I'm over here thinking, “Man, 99 percent of the stuff we write about is useless unless you're in the market for that type of item.” That's not a knock against the Bluetooth thing here, but if you're not looking for one right now? Not all that exciting, no.

If you were gettin' all antsy in the pantsies about yesterday's launch of the LG Expo and it's detachable projector accessory, you might be a bit bewildered right now. A full day later, AT&T's still showing no sign of the handset.

CrunchGear in China
Posted on December 7, 2009 | No Comments
Greetings from sunny Shenzhen, just north of Hong Kong. I've spent some time in Asia - at least the tech centers - and have never found a place like this. It's like Blade Runner meets 1990s Prague meets the end of the world. I'm here to report on what's going on here in terms of electronics and how it's changing the way we think about price, cost, and value. It's pretty crazy.
Thirty years ago Shenzhen was a rice paddy, a town of about 50,000 souls. Today it is a hive, and a dirty one at that. Smog is a way of life. As the sun goes down over the city, the streets take on an amber cast and the darkness falls quickly. There are no picturesque sunsets here.
This is the first in a series called CrunchGear In China about manufacturing in Shenzhen. Look for more posts this week and next.

Zii Trinity smartphone concept handled on video
Posted on December 3, 2009 | No CommentsIt's an all too brief look, but it's infinitely more than we've seen so far. CNET Asia has managed some hands-on time the Zii Trinity concept smartphone. Quite a looker, and here we also get a glimpse of it next to the good ol' Zii Egg. As noted by the narrator, the bottom proprietary slot can be swapped for microUSB or mini-HDMI, there's a notably-sized 5 megapixel camera on the back, as well as one on the front for video conferencing. Enough talk, take a gander for yourself after the break.
[Thanks, kumar]Continue reading Zii Trinity smartphone concept handled on video

Samsung unveils Android-equipped Galaxy Spica i5700
Posted on November 15, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Samsung, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS, Android
The long-rumored little brother to the Galaxy, the i5700, has finally been made official by Samsung -- and sure enough, it'll go by the trade name "Galaxy Spica." Sammy's latest Android-powered set clocks in at 13.2mm thick and comes equipped with a 3.5mm jack (which, frankly, every smartphone in the world should be including at this point), an 800MHz core (presumably the same as the Moment's), and an Android first: built-in DivX support. This one appears to be a no-frills Google Experience device considering the number of times that "Google" is mentioned in Samsung's press release, but for some Android connoisseurs, the purest, unskinned look and feel is preferred. Sammy says it's already out in Europe and the CIS and will be coming to the Middle East and Asia shortly.Samsung unveils Android-equipped Galaxy Spica i5700 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Sun, 15 Nov 2009 22:56:00 EST. HTC HD2 officially coming to US, out in Europe and Asia today!
Posted on November 4, 2009 | No CommentsBe still, our beating hearts! HTC has just pressed the "Go" button for European and Asian shipping of its latest object of desire, and it's served notice to American phone lovers that the HD2 is coming to them soon as well. Slated for a "major US carrier" some time "early 2010," it'll land squarely in the same time bracket as the XPERIA X10, which should lead to some really quite interesting decisions to be made, presumably by March 2010. The WinMo 6.5 device might be shipping now, but you'll have to wait at least until the 9th of November before you can spill your Euros for it, and we expect to see a flurry of pricing and contract information filling that short waiting time. Full PR after the break.

HTC launches the HD2 in Europe and Asia, reconfirms stateside availability in early 2010
Posted on November 4, 2009 | No Comments
Seeing as HTC's CEO Peter Chou sorta slipped up and mentioned this back in October, it's not exactly, you know, news news - but just in case you were a little bit shaky on the dates, HTC has gone ahead and confirmed that the 1 Ghz, WinMo 6.5-powered HTC HD2 will be coming to the United States "with a major US carrier in early 2010. In case you missed it, Blizzard made some big announcements the other day. Yep, an MMO is releasing another expansion set. However, this one is going to completely reshape the entire World (of Warcraft), and that's really the best possible thing that they can do.

HTC Touch2 breaks cover, runs Windows Mobile 6.5
Posted on September 2, 2009 | No Comments
Today, HTC officially announced the Touch2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 that includes My Phone and Windows Marketplace for Mobile. HTC was skimp on specs, but we do know that the Touch2 will have TouchFLO and a slew of Google products pre-installed. And the new IE Mobile supports Flash. If you’re into that sort of thing, which we suspect you are. The Touch2 launches on October 6 with availability spreading to the rest of Europe and Asia in Q4.
