Posted on January 25, 2010 | No CommentsIt was established at some point that Crisitano Ronaldo, the Portuguese international who gets red cards for Real Madrid, can kick a soccer ball at around 130 km/h. People keep track of this for some reason. This here robot… thing can kick a soccer ball at more than 200 km/h. Somewhere, Mr. Ronaldo is quietly [...] -

Avatar online ticket sales taking over
Posted on December 17, 2009 | No Comments
So it's sounding like Avatar is going to be breaking some records (shocking, I know). What record is pending you ask? Online ticket sales. Ok, maybe it's not biggest movie ever, or most special effects, but it's still pretty damn impressive.

Video: Wil Wheaton’s Star Trek cameo
Posted on November 5, 2009 | No CommentsDid you know that Will Wheaton was in JJ's Star Trek? He just went public with the secret cameo voice overs and details the entire experience on his personal blog. If you're even the slightest Star Trek fan, click over and read the whole thing. It's awesome to me that he was so honored and humbled to do just voice over work in the new movie even though he played such a major part in introducing Star Trek to a new audience. The clip after the jump is apparently the only one in the film that's his unaltered voice.e.

Transformers 2 sells 7.5 million DVD & Blu-ray discs. Can’t you people find a better movie to buy?
Posted on October 29, 2009 | No Comments
This is just wrong. I'll admit, I didn't enjoy "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen". I thought the plot was weak and contrived, and I was slightly offended by the dumbing down of the film (robot urination and racial stereotypes? give me a break). I realize that the original "Transformers" wasn't exactly the height of cinematic art, but it was better then the sequel.

From the 3G Industry Summit in Kunshan, China: 16 demos from Chinese mobile startups
Posted on October 24, 2009 | No Comments
Earlier this week, I was in Kunshan, China, to attend the 3G Industry Summit [CN], a four-day event that has attracted a few dozen speakers and an audience of over 200 people, making it one of the biggest of its kind in this country. The annual event is organized by the Kunshan government and Mobile 2.0 Forum, a communication platform with more than 1,500 members, almost single-handedly run by industry veteran Leo Wang.
The summit reassured me of one thing: The Chinese market for mobile hardware, software and contents is big already and it's bound to become huge in the very near future.
Information and stats on China's mobile web sector and profiles of 16 Chinese mobile startups after the jump.

Open ye 27-inch iMacs while ye may
Posted on October 22, 2009 | No CommentsiFixit has torn up the new iMac to reveal the delicate inner workings of both the machine and its attendant Magic Mouse. Obviously the biggest issue here is removing the massive piece of glass on the front, a process that requires a spunger, suction cups, and a sense that life is futile and electronics [...] -
The HP DreamScreen: Not So Dreamy
Posted on September 23, 2009 | No Comments
Last week I saw some coverage of this new HP device called the DreamScreen. And more than a couple of blogs were comparing it to the elusive Apple Tablet. Given my extreme interest in this space, I thought I should get this new DreamScreen in my hands as soon as possible and see if HP had indeed beaten Apple (and us) to the punch in delivering the first high quality tablet computing experience to consumers.
The press: "Want a hint at how the much-anticipated Apple Tablet might be shaping up? Take a look at the HP DreamScreen," said one of those blogs, adding "this certainly looks like what we’re expecting from the Apple Tablet." Another site: "Hewlett Packard has beaten Apple to the punch in coming up with a beautiful tablet-like computer." Engadget called it "something special."
The reality: I can't repeat here what I wrote on Twitter because of the sensitive nature of the TechCrunch audience, but I will say this. The HP DreamScreen is possibly the biggest piece of crap to ever grace my desk. Which is saying something.

1 to 10, how excited are you about The Beatles: Rock Band?
Posted on August 13, 2009 | No CommentsHow did we miss this, a nine-page article in the New York Times about The Beatles: Rock Band? Is it overkill? Perhaps. Rock Band isn't exactly new, and The Beatles aren't exactly some unsigned band, but you have to consider the Times' audience: older folks who probably saw The Beatles live at Shea Stadium, and who would be genuinely excited to see the band show up on iTunes one day (despite the fact that ripping their CDs is quite simple).

It's a good time to be an airport Wi-Fi advertiser. According to a study just released by JiWire, the folks behind a lot of airport Wi-Fi, most people that use airport W-iFi are loaded and spend a good amount of time online while waiting for their flight. This means, of course, that Mr. Money Bags has plenty of time to click on the flashing banner ads that airport Wi-Fi generally sports. But check out these stats, I'm in the wrong game. I should be selling airport Wi-Fi ads.
