The Acer GD235HZ 23-inch LCD monitor is ready for 3D even if you aren’t
Posted on February 1, 2010 | No Comments
In case you didn't notice, CES 2010 was full of 3D. It was everywhere and the Acer GD235HZ is ready to play with all of it. The 23.6-inch, 1080p LCD is specifically designed to work nicely with NVIDIA's 3D Vision active shutter glasses, but of course they don't come with it.

Power Loader: Panasonic venture accepts orders for mecha robot suits (video)
Posted on January 28, 2010 | No CommentsWalking vehicles, also known as mecha, don't play a big role in today's robotics industry, but that might soon change. (You might remember one of the protagonists in Avatar sitting in a mecha, called AMP in the movie, during the final fight.) Now Tokyo-based robot venture Activelink, a Panasonic spin-off company, says it can make one for you, too. The startup has begun accepting orders for their aptly named Power Loader, a power-amplifying robotic suit that enables humans to carry loads of up to 100kg. Users need to strap their feet to the mecha's legs and hold the grips to control the two utility arms. They are then able to lift heavy loads as high as 2m and carry them around.

DIY: Avatar fiber optic jungle
Posted on January 25, 2010 | No CommentsInspired by Avatar, this crafty fellow created his own version of the Pandora jungle. Made using conductive thread, fiber optic strands, and LEDs, he built a rather impressive looking patch of grass that lights up when you touch it. I’m not sure what the practical usage of this would be, but it’s one of those [...] -
Avatar has made more than $1 billion. That’s a lot of dollars.
Posted on January 4, 2010 | No CommentsPretty sure none of us here ever said that Avatar would tank at the box office, but did we think it'd make a billion dollars in just a few days? I sure didn't! (To be fair, I never really gave the topic much thought.) But yes, wipe the look of shock off your face as it's now revealed that the James Cameron film made $1.02 billion in three weeks. That includes international receipts, too. That's a nice chunk of change.

Avatar: The Making of the Bootleg
Posted on December 28, 2009 | No Comments
A (four day old now) spoof of all the “making of Avatar” videos out there. It makes fun of James Cameron’s 15 year journey to create Avatar. And yes, telesync versions of Avatar are available on BitTorrent now. And watching it that way is nothing at all like watching the movie in a theater in 3D.
The video is below:

Avatar won the weekend despite a blocking attempt by Mother Nature
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No Comments
I have yet to see a bad review of Avatar and a bunch of people went to see the movie too. Avatar brought in $232.2m in its opening weekend, although it could have been so much more if global warming could have helped out a bit. East Coasters probably were probably too busy digging out from over a foot of snow that fell over the last few days to go see a movie.

Avatar has hit telesync, but by all reports you should just pay your money
Posted on December 20, 2009 | No CommentsImagine this in 3D. With like aliens popping out onto your lap. This telesync won’t be like that. Avatar is now a telesync, in English, but it seems the aliens in the copy are gray and everyone – I mean everyone – says to go see it in the theaters. If you can’t wait and/or you [...] -
Toy Story 3 to hit IMAX 3D on June 18, 2010
Posted on December 18, 2009 | No CommentsBe honest, you kind of want to see Toy Story 3. I mean, even though the film doesn’t natively support IMAX 3D and will have to be remastered, it should still be amazing on the huge screens. Plus the whole cast is back: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Michael Keaton, Don Rickles, R. Lee Emey. Even Timothy Dalton [...] -
Poll: Do you plan on seeing Avatar this weekend
Posted on December 18, 2009 | No CommentsYou probably already know that this is Avatar’s opening weekend. It’s a big movie to say it lightly. James Cameron invested a lot of time and resources into it and some say the future of 3D movies are riding on its blue alien shoulders. But do you plan on using two hours and 40 minutes [...] -
Avatar online ticket sales taking over
Posted on December 17, 2009 | No Comments
So it's sounding like Avatar is going to be breaking some records (shocking, I know). What record is pending you ask? Online ticket sales. Ok, maybe it's not biggest movie ever, or most special effects, but it's still pretty damn impressive.

SodiumOne: Sony’s possibly legitimately fun game in Home
Posted on December 17, 2009 | No CommentsSony hasn't given up on Home, its virtual world filled with avatars and overall weirdness. It just launched Sodium One, which is the latest Home world you and your avatar can spend the day in. There's a game to go along with it, one that looks an awful lot like Wipeout, which isn't bad at all.

First reviews of Avatar appear, but stay away
Posted on December 10, 2009 | No Comments
So Avatar premiered tonight in London and apparently nearly everyone loved it. Twitter is aflutter with first impressions and even Drudge's main headline proclaims the film is "Oscar Bound."
But here's the thing. Don't read the early reviews. Just know that so far it's living up to its $237 million expectation. The last thing you need to do is go read one of the reviews raving about the movie and spoil all your fun.

Bookies think Modern Warfare 2 will be the best seller this year
Posted on October 9, 2009 | No CommentsAnyone who has any doubts over what will be the best-selling video game this holiday season needs to check himself. It will absolutely be Modern Warfare 2. And while I can say that without anything real being put on the line, Irish bookie Paddy Power has given the game 8/13 odds as being the best-selling game.
