He’s back: 60-foot Gundam is (almost) ready again
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No Comments
We spent quite a few posts on the uber-cool, gigantic Gundam statue that was erected in Tokyo Bay last year. The 60-foot robot statue was deconstructed in September, with Bandai quickly announcing plans to re-erect the big guy in Shizuoka soon. And now he's almost ready.

Hyper Telescope: Bandai’s new “science toy” for kids
Posted on April 15, 2010 | No Comments
Major toymaker Bandai yesterday announced the Hyper Telescope [JP], which is being marketed as a "science toy" for kids. It's the ideal gadget if you want your kid to become an astronomer, as it allows users to observe the sky and view relevant information on connected displays or within the device itself. All that needs to be done is to specify one's location on earth and the current time.

Japan’s giant Gundam statue returns, this time armed with a saber
Posted on March 22, 2010 | No Comments
The giant Gundam statue that protected Tokyo last summer was so cool that we covered it multiple times. In September 2009, Bandai (the company responsible for the marketing coup) decided to retire Gundam once and for all.
But five months later, in December 2009, the city of Shizuoka (some 125 miles west of Tokyo) announced it plans to re-erect the statue in July this year. And now it has come to light that it will really happen [JP] (on the 24th of July, Gundam’s 30th birthday, to be more exact). Shizuoka is the city where most of the Gundam plastic models come from.

Tekken 6 update should improve online playability
Posted on November 24, 2009 | No CommentsYou'll find that opinions vary with respect to Tekken 6's netcode. I didn't run into too many problems, but others certainly have. What are you going to do, right? Come November 26, you can, I don't know, apply the update that will hopefully clear up some of those glitches. So that's what you can do.

Japan gets awesome Space Battleship Yamato model
Posted on November 24, 2009 | No Comments
Space Battleship Yamato is the name of a (rather short-lived) Japanese science fiction anime series that was aired on TV in countries other than Nippon some 20 to 30 years ago (outside Japan the anime and the movie versions are also known as Star Blazers or Space Cruiser Yamato). And now, the series' very cool, eponymous spaceship gets a very pretty model version [JP].

Tamagotchi ID: New and customizable Tamagotchi to be rolled out soon
Posted on November 16, 2009 | No Comments
In September last year, Bandai has updated the Tamagotchi with a color version, causing dozens of teenage girls to leave comments on CrunchGear for the first time. And now the company is ready to roll out yet another model: The so-called Tamagotchi ID [JP] is named "ID" because it's the first model you can customize to some extent. It's also possible to install content off the web on the device.

Very cool RC toy: “Mission Carrier SWAT truck” with helicopter (video)
Posted on July 14, 2009 | No Comments
Just yesterday we featured Bandai's cool remote-controlled heli-robot Sky Armor, and now the same company (its subsidiary CCP, to be exact) announced the Mission Carrier SWAT [JP], a combination of a truck and helicopter. And this toy is even better than Sky Armor.
The cool thing about the SWAT truck is the sound and the elevating deck: Push a button on the remote to make the panels in the back of the truck open and reveal the mini helicopter inside of it. The helicopter can then be controlled just like every other RC helicopter (for 5 minutes after a 30 minute charge). Needless to say, you can also let the truck itself drive around.
No doubt,
