Walmart offering $100 gift card with any BlackBerry purchase (but only next week)
Posted on November 11, 2009 | No Comments
We're onto you, Wally World. Granted, you already confessed that you'd be dishing out a deal a week until sometime in the future, but hey, we'll feign surprise without thinking twice. Next week's bargain is a good one for those in the market for one of RIM's handsets, as Walmart shoppers will be given a $100 gift card (to Walmart, obviously) if they purchase practically any BlackBerry phone on a 2-year contract from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless. The offer begins at 8AM local time this Saturday and runs through November 20th, and if you're looking to see exactly which handsets are included in the deal, have a look past the break.Continue reading Walmart offering $100 gift card with any BlackBerry purchase (but only next week)

Google developing free navigation app?
Posted on October 27, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Software
We already know plenty of people who've eschewed traditional turn-by-turn GPS systems in favor of plotting it out for free on Google Maps, and now there's whispers that Mountain View is coming after the rest of the market with a free nav app. That's at least what nav services providers are saying to Forbes, who think El Goog is gearing up to release a free ad-supported navigation app after making moves to use its own US maps instead licensing data from Tele Atlas and putting ads on the iPhone Maps app. Obviously that would shake things up a ton -- and make Android devices a huge bargain -- but we'll see where this all leads over the next few months.

Pantech Reveal and Impact revealed with impact
Posted on October 8, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Features, Pantech, ATT, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS
We've just checked out Pantech's new pair of messaging-friendly phones for AT&T, the Reveal and Impact; one of them left an "impact" on us, and we'll let you guess which one (hint: it's the one that would result in a pun occurring). Yeah, the Reveal was a pretty cheap-looking set -- and we're not sure we understand the value of eating of screen real estate with a dedicated numeric pad just so you don't have to slide the phone open to dial -- but the Impact (pictured above) was a genuinely intriguing phone. Up front you've got a glossy black surface that lights up to reveal a basic monochrome display and a numeric pad; pressing buttons on the pad triggers haptics so you can sorta feel your way around. Opening the phone up produces a full QWERTY keyboard with dedicated buttons for key functions (messaging, for example) and a color display with stereo speakers on either side. It's not a huge widescreen like you might find on something like an enV Touch, but it's still pretty big, plenty vibrant, and serviceable for the full HTML browser that AT&T's touting in these new devices. Pantech tells us that the Impact will go for "under $80" when it ships next month, so we'd argue that makes it a heck of a bargain in light of the unusual, slick design and the dual displays.

Posted on July 13, 2009 | No CommentsLook, we already know a lot about the so-called Apple Tablet. We know the project is real and a lot of man power has been dedicated to the project. Crunchdeal: Get a WD Caviar Green 1TB HDD for $76.49 shipped
Posted on June 19, 2009 | No Comments
Cheap is a relative term, but I think everyone can agree that $76.49 for a 1TB drive is a bargain. I mean, considering that the drive in question is the extremely popular Western Digital Caviar Green, one of the quietest and most energy efficient drives currently on the market.

Voigtländer ƒ1.1 Lens for Leica: A $1300 Bargain
Posted on June 15, 2009 | No Comments$1,300 (¥130,000) might sound like a lot for a camera lens, but if it’s the new Voigtländer 50mm ƒ1.1 for Leica M cameras, it’s a bargain. To get anything close from Leica itself you’ll need to buy the slightly faster Leica 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux-M, a lens which costs a stunning $10,000. The new Voigtländer lens, made [...] -
Apple Euthanizes PowerPC Macs with Snow Leopard
Posted on June 10, 2009 | No CommentsIf you have an old PowerPC Mac, you should probably make it its favorite dinner, throw an arm around its shoulder and – as you shed a single, silent tear – lead it round behind the back of the house. Lowering it gently into the old, rusted bathtub you whisper, almost inaudibly, “sorry.” You then [...] -
LG’s LH55 series of 1080p, 240Hz LCDs now shipping
Posted on May 27, 2009 | No Comments
Remember all those LCDs LG flooded us with at CES earlier this year? Another set of them is shipping, the LH55 models in sizes ranging from 37- to 55-inches. These don't have any of the fancy internet connectivity or wireless HDMI tricks offered by some of the company's more flash sets, but all offer 1080p resolutions at TruMotion 240Hz refresh rates, 80,000:1 contrast ratios, and other niceties like auto-calibration and Clear Voice II, which pledges to ensure dialogue doesn't get washed out by heavyhanded soundtracks. They're all Energy Star 3.0 certified, too, so you'll feel a little more green while watching that Discovery Earth Blu-ray on a television that's almost five feet on the diagonal. MSRPs range from $1,399 up to $3,899, so get bargain hunting.LG's LH55 series of 1080p, 240Hz LCDs now shipping originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 27 May 2009 06:36:00 EST.
