JVC Kenwood made a pretty interesting announcement today [JP]. Their Ryoma is basically an HD digital TV tuner, BD/DVD recorder, AM/FM tuner and HDD recorder rolled into one. The bad news is you have to connect it with another device called M-LinX (the smaller one in the picture on the left) to access the radio functionality.

Sony’s 400-disc Blu-ray changer deemed worthy of your $1,900 – if you have 400 discs
Posted on September 2, 2009 | No Comments
The first reaction most have to these Sony megachangers hasn't changed over the years. Just insert the name of the appropriate physical media. But yes, some people do own that many discs and so these changers make sense for them. Plus, while digital downloads are great and the future of the average consumer, there are still some folk that demand the absolute best picture and sound which only Blu-ray can provide. Electronic house had a chance to sit down with the ES Blu-ray changer and sent it through the paces.

Shock: Toshiba to launch Blu-ray player
Posted on July 18, 2009 | No CommentsIt had to happen at some point. With HD DVD long gone and Blu-ray sales rocketing up 91 percent (Q1 ‘09 over Q1 ‘08), Toshiba really had no choice, but to join the other team. According to Yomiuri, Toshiba will be launching a Blu-ray player by the end of the year. Details are scant, but [...] -

JVC Japan announced the XV-BP1 today [JP], a new Blu-ray player that comes with two interesting features and a fair price. The player supports DivX/MPEG-4/MKV/AVCHD files and sports a USB port at the front so you can plug in a USB stick with your DivX-movies (you know, the ones you downloaded legally earlier) into the device and directly start watching.

Vizio’s VBR100 Blu-ray player will be a Walmart exclusive
Posted on June 25, 2009 | No Comments
Vizio just took the wraps off of its hot Internet-connected HDTVs the other day, but the company has a new Blu-ray player coming soon too. The $188 MSRP will probably get price cuts and sales to bring it down to a more "Walmart" level seeing as Blu-ray players have breached the $100 mark. But even around the starting price, this player might not disappoint.

LG’s HR400 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray recorder gets outed
Posted on June 1, 2009 | No CommentsSo, why can't Yanks get ahold of these Blu-ray recorders again? All pent-up rage aside, what we're looking at above is LG's yet-to-be-formally-announced HR400, a Blu-ray recorder that will evidently be aimed initially at the European market. Packing BD-Live (Profile 2.0) support, a built-in DVB-T TV tuner and YouTube compatibility, this deck also arrives with 160GB of internal hard drive space for holding OTA recordings. Heck, this thing can even play back DivX HD files, stream media clips from other places on your network and upscale DVDs to 1080p. Is all that worth €599 ($852)? We're saying no, but you and your wallet can make your own darn decisions.Filed under: Home Entertainment
